    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

I have a front end stand that works on modern bikes. It will not work on our GS's. Will not lift it high enough. I made a pin that is 1" longer. Lifted higher, but still not enough. I have a Venom lift for the rear and use it on my 1990 Katana track bike. No place fit to use it on my 1982 GS1100G with it's weird swingarm, but that has a centerstand.
With the G on it's centerstand, to lift the front end I put a floor jack under the headers, with a flat piece of wood on the jack to protect the headers.
I can augment that with a small chain hoist or tie down strap from the triple tree to a ceiling beam. Good for safety too.
Getting the rear wheel out of a G is Royal-PITA, but that's another story.
 
With the Venom front and rear stands, you can remove both wheels at the same time, no monkeying around with blocks ect. With the homemade extension on the Venom front stand it lifts it enough to take the axel caps off, remove axel. One cannot remove the wheel assy(axel in) the axel will not clear the studs for removal. That is with a 18" front wheel and is worse with a 19". I could try a longer extension, but I'm not sure of the "for every action there is a reaction" principal

Put small pieces of 1x4s under the wheels?
 
I have an electric ceiling hoist (800 lb) and straps for picking the bike up. Either end to any height or straps at both ends and the whole bike. Can't fall over either. LOL
 
My friend gave me one for the Bandit that has paddles to slide under the forks. I'm not that thrilled with it but it works well enough for me

I use the same Venom stand on my 06 Sprint 1050 with the adapter I made from 15/16" x 1-1/2" high brass rod fitted on the supplied 13mm pin. I had done a quick measurement of the inside of the headstock on my 83GS(X)750e and the adapter I made will work with it.

I made a lift which engauges the cross bar of the frame, below the headstock on most GS's and it has worked on my 450e, 650g and 1100g's. If your interested in what this stand looks like, let me know....

Here's the adopter I made for the venom stand. its 2" longer. Gets it higher but not far enough. I am interested in what your crossbar lift looks like. I was thinking of something for the scissors jack that catches the crossbar behind the exhaust, but that upper frame member would get it away from a accidental exhaust mishap.

This stand will raise the front wheel off the ground and hold the bike securly while the bike is on the center stand of the motorcycle. If the rear wheel is off, you can raise the front of the bike higher because the wheel is not there to hit the ground. Conversly if the front wheel is off you can lower the front end, lower than the normal wheel position and raise the rear of the bike. I have done this many times, raising and lowering the front and rear below their normal positions but I am always watching that the center stand isn't shifting on it's pivot.

I always remove the axle when removing the wheel and never the axle caps. I've pulled the forks and triple tee off the bike, inspected, lubed the head bearing, and replaced the fork seals while the bike is on this stand. Hope this was of some use. cg
 
That is really nice. Simple, light, east to store, safe. To my other GS brothers, the hoist is being used to lift a spare Sprint off the floor for more storage space. I tried 2x4,s under the wheels, didn't change. I got 55 bucks into this scissor lift, I can't give up yet....

Are you asking about the blue and black front frame stand I have in my pictures? I designed and fabricated that one. I do have

Due to height? I usually rock mine on to one leg of the centrestand & kick a large block under then repeat with the other side. It's not too hard but takes some muscle...
 
Center stand, and a small bottle jack. I have Front and rear stand for my GSXR. Don't remember what brand they are. They are old, but work well enough. I also have one rear "spool" stand from Harbor Freight. It's a little flimsy feeling, but I've sat on the bike, and rocked around quite a bit on it. I really like that home-made jack stand you got there Charlie. You could make a few bucks on those... I'd be interested in getting a copy of the drawing...

I have a used stand that was given to me. Do not know what bike it was used for previously, but it is too wide for the GSX1250 axles and I have no interest in fabricating attachments to make it work.

If anyone wants it and will pay for shipping you can have it
