Well I managed to snap my front brake lever, so I need to buy a new one. I'd really prefer something adjustable if it exists, is there anything that just bolts right on? This is on an '85 GS700 if it matters.

Thanks :)

Yeah...another OEM lever. Why the need for adjustment?

I know an OEM one just bolts on

The bars were bent a certain amount to alter the riding position, so the brake lever is awfully far out. I'd like to be able to move it in a bit.

You'll need the whole master cylinder and lever from a later model bike. As long as the piston diameter is the same, you can use about anything.

Also you'll want to write down what it came from in case you need a lever in the future. And try to get one with the same thread for the banjo bolt (10mm X 1mm, I think) just to eliminate another potential source of future consternation.

Off to eBay with you!

In that case, I'm just going to steal the brake MC off my other bike for a while - it's adjustable, although a decent bit larger. Hopefully it'll do the trick for a while.

bit larger = 19x20, vs the stock 5/8 (15.8mm).

edit: are there master cylinders that use differently sized banjo bolts?

banjo bolts?
Careful on the first squeeze...you might find yourself laying on the lowside of the bike, wondering what happened!

actually, it'll take MORE effort for the same stopping power with the Brembo unit - 40% more or so in fact. of course, that's presuming no friction etc...

don't think I'll see another GS with one of those on it

I'm considering doing this mod too... I have short fingers & the OEM is a reach for me (not unsafe just not the most comfortable). If I could gain a bit of extra mechanical advantage/power at the same time that would be lovely.

What has anyone else used? I think I read about a 929RR one on someones bike...

I have the dual disk setup.

Dan :)

the quickest & cheapest mod to get an ajustable lever is to grab a master cylinder off a gsxr11 or bandit12 :-D bandit will have a mirror mount if you need it & gsxr ones have a slightly angled master cylinder if you need that, early triumph ones are exaxtly the same nissin cyl so they fit too.

The same goes for clutch master cylinders & triumph do a matching cable clutch with an ajustable lever

with any of these its just bolt on bleed up & go :-D

Thanks mate, that's great info. Is there some power gain as well as the adjustable lever?

Is the banjo still the 10mm x 1mm thread?

Dan :)

No probs salty monk glad to help mate

dont think you'll get a power gain but do know the "feel" improves a great deal, as for the banjo bolt nissin are renown for changing them mid production run so its pot luck if it will be 10 x 1 or 10 x 1.25 ive even had a new bike straight from the dealers with both sizes on the front brakes :?

Thanks again, with my new stainless lines it should improve things a lot if I can find one... only one on Ebay at the mo.

Dan :)

Hey dan i read somewhere that youre back in the homeland soon :-D if you are still struggling to find a master cylinder by then give me a shout & maybe i can sort you 1 out to take back with you :-D
