Hello all, I am new here but not new to motorcycles in the least. I am actually an avid member over at Gixxer.com and primarily restore the 1st generation 750's (I currently have 4 of them). Anyway, I have come accross a pretty good deal for GS owners (well GS 1000 owners anyway) and thought I would post here to see if anybody is interested.

As the subject line says, I can get my hands on some brand new Ohlins SU143's at $450/pr. I do not know how many I can get my hands on, but on the average I've been able to get about 8-15 of any particular shock at a time. One of the guys on the WERA BBoard aked me if I could get these and since I can I'm going to see how many others would be interested. Basically, I have organized a number of group buys with Ohlins and yes, I do get something out of it, but so do you. At $450, these are about half of retail and they come from the US Distributor with a full factory warranty and, are sprung to your weight. I will not be acting as a middleman, nor will I be handling any of your money, I simply provide you with the contact info for the deal at OhlinsUSA, you mention my name, and you get the price I quoted - $450.

So far I have sold more than 30 shocks (over 2 buys) for the CB guys over at CB1100F.net, and 8 monoshocks for the oil cooled gang over at Gixxer.com and so far everybody has been happy. I have a reputation and I am proud of it. If this sounds like something that you'd be interested in, shoot me a PM and when I know how many people want them I'll place the call to Ohlins so they know how many to order. After that you simply call them, talk to my contact, and that's it. This is all legit, no funny stuff and you can look me up on the other boards where I have organized purchaes before.

So how do I do it, and why? Well, I am a Contracting Officer in the Marine Corps and know how to arrange and negotiate deals like this because I do it daily. Why do I do it? That's easy - for the parts. I do not get any monetary benefit from Ohlins, but I do get a discount when it's time to purchase stuff for my projects. Every little bit helps. So, you get a discount on your purchase, and I get a discount on mine. Everybody is honest, and everybody is happy. As long as it stays that way, I'll continue to do it.

Again, these are new. I am not going to handle any of the transaction. You will deal completely one on one with my contact at OhlinsUSA. You will have a factory support and warranty. And, you will be satisfied. Oh, and best of all, since you are dealing with Ohlins, you can even use your Visa.

See the following threads for a couple of my other buys and shoot me a PM if you want in. Also, if there is enough interest I may be able to locate some for the monoshock bikes as well.

Also, would we be able to get a similar deal on the SU 145 model? Anyways, I am in(PM'd you).

how to buy

how to buy

Hi
I would like a set and live in New Zealand, how can I get a set at that price?
thanks Randy

The price for shipping overseas will increase some but I have had other buyers from all over the world order shocks from them in the past so overseas shipping is not a problem and the cost for the shocks themselves is still $450.

Flatline: thanks for the application input, I'll have to check availability on the 145's before I can say yes or no but if I remember right they are about double in price what the 143's are due to the adjustabillity you gain with them.

According to the Ohlins website the SU143 & the SU145 have eye-to-eye mounting. No clevis for the lower mount. These will not fit the '78 GS1000.

webpage said that picture might not represent actual product...

av8tr,

You posted over at Maximum-Suzuki.com making a similar offer for a group buy on Yosh titanium exhuast for 1st gen gixxers, no?

av8tr,

Yes, but I don't have that one set up yet - still working on it. I already have a relationship established with Ohlins though so getting these together is relatively easy. For the Yosh buy I have to deal with overseas stuff and that makes it far more complicated. It would be so nice if Yosh USA would play ball... Also, I can not get any more GSXR shocks from from Ohlins as they are out of stock and out of production - just in case anybody was wondering about that.

As far as the photos on the Ohlins site is concerned, they are just generic photos of the shock like Flatline had said. The basic shock is the same for all models but the valving, spring rate, length, and mounts vary. These shocks are the same ones the CB guys bought only they were manufactured for the CB's. When you purchase yours for the GS's the outward appearance will be nearly identical to the photo except for the bottom mount and maybe the color of the spring depending on your weight. Some of the CB guys got yellow springs because they were - well, big fans of McD's. 8-[ The shocks you get will either have black or yellow springs (in some cases you will be able to choose at the time of ordering) and they will also have the proper mounts on them.

Like I said, these are coming from Ohlins and they do it right. I'm not getting them from the back of a van, China, or water damaged boxes from a warehouse in a recent flood zone. You will be happy with what arrives at your door.

Still no word yet on the 145's...

For those of you that have PM'd me, just hang tight until next week and then I'll pass the info out for you to contact my gal at Ohlins. I don't know how many I can get yet and priority will be given to those that responded first.

PM's sent with contact info for those that expressed interest. If I left you out shoot me a PM and I'll reply with the contact info.

Guy's just be careful here. This guy could be a real nice guy and have some good deals or he could be a scammer, he has a real low post count and on other forums i have been a member of, Group buys that seem to to good to be true are usally that and people get burned. So if you do go with this guy please exercise caution, use a credit card that will fight for you if you get ripped off, maybe call them ahead of time to give them a heads up on your purchase, don't give out the 3 digit number on the back, or at least ask your CC if that is needed by the retailer, i don't think that is required but if used it is hard to recoup your loss. Also if you go with a money order use a postal money order only, if a scam goes down, it is a federal crime to commit a crime using a postal money order, the postal inspector can investigate it. I would also ask for a return address that can be verified and/or a name and distributor ID or info so you can call ohlins to verify he is distributor for them.

just be careful guys and report back how it all works out.

Did you read everything? Just wondering because I posted links to the other group buys that I have done and I haven't done one yet that turned out bad. I appreciate your looking out for people and all, but I have also stated that I am not taking anyones money AND that this deal is arranged to be completed through OhlinsUSA and my contact there that I have arranged the group buy with. I have encouraged the use of a credit card as well. Please read the entire post before flaming me and if you don't appreciate the effort I've put into this, then don't take part in it. Either way, at least do me the common courtesy of reading everything before warning others off because there are a couple of areas that you have covered in your post that are addressed in mine. For example:

"..he has a real low post count..."

That may be, but the links I provided to the other sites show a much higher post count and if one wanted to investigate that further they would find I am one and the same person.

"I would also ask for a return address that can be verified and/or a name and distributor ID or info so you can call ohlins to verify he is distributor for them."

I am not a distributor nor a retailer, nor a representative of Ohlins products but OhlinsUSA is and that is who you are doing business with. I merely arranged the deal with one of thier people and IF you are interested and IF you PM me I will provide the info. Are you going to call the USA distributor and ask them if they are a distributor? Of course not. Again, please read and comprehend everything before you post something like this.

Other than that, your points about MO and CC's are good and I endorse those 100% with one ecxeption being the 3 digit number you mention which is needed whenever you make a purchase by phone.

Again, a summary of important points here:

1. I am not taking any of your money.
2. You can and are encouraged to use your CC.
3. You are buying from OhlinsUSA in NC and will get full support and warranty with your purchase.
4. I have arranged several of these in the past and never had a dissatisfied member.
5. If you call my contact you will not get a sales pitch and if you feel uncomfortable with it you may say no, hang up, and nobody will call you back.
6. I provide an email address in the contact info that can be verified as well as a phone number and name. All of this info can be verified and none of it is bogus.
7. Using the links I provided you could just PM the people that have purchased in the past as part of one of my previous buys and verify that the contact info I provide to you is the same. I have, in fact, had repeat buyers as well. I encourage that you do this if you are on the fence about a purchase.

First Timer, I sent you a PM with the contact info in it. Please feel free to verify and post your findings here as you have already voiced your cautions. I know that when you do you will find that this is all legit. One of your posts in the Piggyback shock thread started by Firemun (also a CB1100F site member) suggested that it would be nice to have Ohlins for under $500, I answered the call and at $450 these are a screaming deal. I feel these are not in direct competition with Firemuns shocks as the Ohlins are more expensive and are somewhat limited in supply as we are selling current stock only.

i don't think i was flaming you, just pointing out some things i see, sorry if you took offense. I feel I in no way was telling people not to buy from you or your contacts, but to just be careful and not rush to throw money at you and pay for it later. Just be careful and take basic precautions, which i still stand by.

i have seen in other forums scammers (not necessarily you so don't misunderstand) go as far as to setup fake online stores with products and setup group buys to only take peoples money and run. Some of those people that got taken used debit card transactions and got taken with little they could do to get their money back, since laws for debit cards are different then those for CC's. So like I said just double check with your CC's so you know what kind of protection you have.

I appreciate you taking the time to pass on some deals but you have to understand where i am coming from where it is rather easy to setup websites, drop a few names, forward calls and whatever with the advent of the information age, so someone appearing out of the blue with great deals will set off some alarms.

i did run the number you gave me through switchboard which turned up this web address http://www.ohlinsusa.com/Contact/tabid/58/Default.aspx then i did go to www.ohlin.com and checked the distributor list and the above address i got from switch board, it did show up there, as well as the (828) 692-4525 phone number showed up, so the conclusion i draw is if use the number (828) 692-4525 plus the extension number and contact person Erik gives then it should be ok. Since Ohlin's website also lists it.

But like i said above it is always good practice to know what kind of protection your CC provides and is not always a good idea to use a debit style or credit card that is tied to your checking account when doing online /phone purchases.

hope all works out well for those interested, please report back. I like to hear from people i know and are familiar with.

-ryan

Ryan, your logic is 100% understood but I will admit I felt a little burned and personally attacked when I read your post. It's all good now though and at least it's out for everyone else to consider. I appreciate your second post in the thread also - thank you for doing that.

Now, unless I'm mistaken Flatline ordered today so hopefully he'll post on the experience and clear this up.

Yup, I ordered today.

It went fine, the contact at Ohlins took my infromation and told me that I would be contacted by email once the shocks are in from sweden and ready for local distribution.

At no point during the transaction did i have any second thoughts and i would like to thank long_av8r for setting up this buy.

Thanks for the post Flatline. Did she tell you the approximate delivery date? Also, unless I'm mistaken she doesn't actually charge your CC until she ships them from their offices in NC right?
