DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Have been working on my 83 Maxim 550 lately trying to get it rode worthy so I can sell it. Took it for a drive today and the motor got VERY hot. touched the oil cap and burnt my fingers. Also, Breather tube is blowing a little smoke and dripping oil (because motor is so hot). Whats my problem here? Has oil.

Is yor tube routing back into the crancase via the airbox?

If not you need to put an appropriate filete on it as the crankcase will suck dirty air.

Natural for it to smoke if it just dangling.

oh and dude all AC engines will be hot as hell ont eh filler cap.

Did you run it in the driveway without air flowing over the engine? Did you rejet the carbs to go along with the pod air filters?

Pod Filters have been on it since I have had it, and it has always ran fine before.
When idling when I first started it it idles fine. After I drove a few blocks when in nuetral idle would creep up and stay around 4000 rpms, and a few more blocks it was constant at 4000 rpms in nuetral. I was thinking this was the floats sticking, but from the sounds of it I could be wrong.

Floats sticking do not cause problems like that.

First off, how is the crankcase breather going to be SUCKING air?
Secondly, What language are you typing in???

How is anyone supposed to understand what you are typing???

He was saying that the breather tube should either route back to the air filter or have its own little filter. It shouldnt be open to unfiltered air.

If it's running hotter than normal (and you say oil level is ok), maybe the oil pump ain't delivering oil to upper engine -plugged filter/bypass?

If your idle is running up to 4000rpm at idle and this behavior is new and there is nothing you have changed it sounds like you have developed a vacuum leak on the intake. Cracked o-ring or intake boot not sure about a yammie.
