A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

I just put on the carbs on my 82 Suzuki 750 after following the recommended dipping and cleaning procedures posted on this formun .Also new o rings were installed and float levels were set to specs (22.4 mm).The only adjustment made was to the floats that before the disasembly was set at 25.2mm.
I went riding this morning expecting a smooth operating machine after all the time, money and effort of the carb restoration .After a short time on the road and coming to a stop in city traffic the RPMs would rise to 2000, so i reset the idle to 1100rpms.The idle would not remain in preset and seemed to hover around 2000rpms then after a 15 seconds it would almost stall while stopped at traffic light.
The motorcycle ran better before the cleaning and the only change was the float height was raised to 22.4 mm . Should I return floats to original height

Sounds like she's running weak and the way you have moved those float heights you will have made things richer. First, it's unusual for all float heights to be out so I would check that you measured correctly and in the right place. If you did everything correctly then I guess somebody else fiddled with the carbe before you.

Oh - I presume you still have the standard airbox on and the standard pipe?

The other thing to look at is your mixture screws and set using the highest idle method.

Did you replace the intake boot orings and check the boots for cracks/holes? Could have a vacuum leak some place. Or the mixture isn't set right. Leave the floats at 22.4 since that's where they should be.

If the idle speed increases as the engine warms up, it almost always points to an intake leak. Recheck all your connections.

Runaway idle after warmup is also a symptom of carbs that are out of sync. If you had the carbs un-ganged (separated), the odds are pretty much 100% that you need to sync the carbs. It's possible that nothing else is wrong.
