DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

The final stages of prep for reassembly have begun. I still have to paint the engine and the rims then I can start putting her back together. I finished the carbs today and gave them a good wire brushed aluminum finish..hope you all like.

Looking good Herr Hahn, if the rest of the bike follows that attention to detail, we have a thing of beauty in the making here...once again.
What was the process to get that finish, I tried to get the same finish on my forks, but could not get an even tone all round?

After dipping I use those tooth brushes with the stainless steel bristles and some Aluminator aluminum cleaner. Spray the Aluminator in the hard to reach areas and scrub the crap out of them with the tooth brushes. The rinse well in the sink and dry with the compressed air. After all the hardest to reach places are shiney i then run the entire carb body on a wire wheel on the bench grinder. Same for the tops and bowls...scrub and wire wheel. Once you do one on the wheel youll see the ares that you need to concentrate on with the brushes. You may have to go back and redo the first one once you get the idea of whats going on. Use the stainless brushes to clean out the bowl areas of the carbs too. Get all that chalky loose scale out of there or it may clog up the carbs again.

Used the Dupli-color wheel clear on the tops of mine.Been pretty tough on the polished stuff on Old Yeller.Baked it to toughen it.

Jeeeez, I don't know about that Chuck, I would be afraid that the gloss of the clear coat may just detract from the finish and make them look tacky, seeing you in the Lone Star state and don't have the same humidity and oxidization problems as the guys further north, I would leave them as is.
Worst case, ride it for a season, see how they hold up and if need be redo them and coat then if you have to.

Get some soon.Don't think you'd need to bake them,I just do everything

Did the fork legs Dale sent me in it to.Painted ones are on the bottom.

Snims came in so today was finish the valve adjustment and strip the engine and rims for repainting. Soon as they are repainted everything will be done and I can start reassembly. I sprayed everything down with stripper and used various brushes to scrub as much loose as I could then stuffed rags into all the ports and power washed the entire engine. Then i used the compressor and air nozzle to blow dry it . Let it sit a few days to be sure its air dried well and its ready for paint.

Whatcha gonna do with it, Chuck?
Put it on the showroom floor or sell it?

It will be for sale.. Got one guy with first dibs..if he passes then its a free for all. I will have right at 3100.00 into the entire project. But if it doesnt sell so what its all redone and paid for so no skin off my nose..

Thanks for the tip Greg. I'll give that a try on my aluminum pieces. do you know if it's fuel resistant?
