Being happy with my Shoei RF-1000Helmet, EXL Leather Jacket, Tour master and Milwaukee Leather Gloves and Herman Survivor boots, I felt riding in my Levi 501 jeans offered no protection at all to my legs. So I set out to buy myself a pair of riding pants and I ultimately narrowed down my choices to Draggin Jeans or Tour Master DSX Denim.
Reading as much as possible on the subject and viewing motorcycle crash reports, I rationalized that the knees are particularly vulnerable in a motorcycle spill to severe damage from impact ?..there?s hardly a case IMO, where this joint did not contact asphalt or some dense object in a spill.
Based on this info and although I appreciate the strength and wear resistance of Kevlar, the choice of abrasion resistance by riders still seems to be leather. I also felt that I would like some impact protection in that vulnerable knee area.
This being the case, I purchased the Tour Master DSX Denim at US$67.50 which arrived today.
The Tour Master Cortech DSX Denim Riding Pants looks and feels very much like Levi 501 jeans and are quality made from 13.5Oz Denim. The butt area is lined with soft leather and a perforated liner and the Knee area is also treated as such and in addition, has an inside compartment to house the CE-approved armor which is essentially a pliable, kneepad made of some durable, synthetic, shock absorbent material.
I usually wear a 34? waist with 30? inseam, but I opted to purchase the pants with a 32? inseam so that the pants legs don?t ride-up exposing ankle area when my knees are flexed in my seated position on the bike. A decision that I am very pleased with.
These jeans are made in China (like everything else these days) and are of very good quality. The jeans fit well and are extremely comfortable. The protective lining and knee-pads are indeed very unobtrusive.
Although I have no intention of ?dynamically testing? this equipment, I feel a lot more confident that I have done my utmost to negate injury should such an unfortunate occasion present itself.
The care instructions advise removal of the knee pads before washing. Gentle cycle, machine wash in cold water and hang dry. No bleach, no fabric softener, do not dry clean and do not tumble dry.
Composition:
Pants: 100% Cotton
Lining: 50% Polyester and 50% Washable Leather.
