If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • This forum is for placing reviews for parts, accessories, gear and service as it relates to your GS motorcycle. The key here is "GS Related". There is a bit of latitude here but we don't want to see a review on Maytag washers just because that's what you use to clean your riding jacket in.

Keep your review as factual as possible and please refrain from personal attacks. Posted articles will be reviewed by the Editors and may be removed at their discretion.

So let's make this a useful addition to the forum! A special pat on the back goes to Hap Call for coming up with this great idea.

Being happy with my Shoei RF-1000Helmet, EXL Leather Jacket, Tour master and Milwaukee Leather Gloves and Herman Survivor boots, I felt riding in my Levi 501 jeans offered no protection at all to my legs. So I set out to buy myself a pair of riding pants and I ultimately narrowed down my choices to Draggin Jeans or Tour Master DSX Denim.

Reading as much as possible on the subject and viewing motorcycle crash reports, I rationalized that the knees are particularly vulnerable in a motorcycle spill to severe damage from impact ?..there?s hardly a case IMO, where this joint did not contact asphalt or some dense object in a spill.

Based on this info and although I appreciate the strength and wear resistance of Kevlar, the choice of abrasion resistance by riders still seems to be leather. I also felt that I would like some impact protection in that vulnerable knee area.

This being the case, I purchased the Tour Master DSX Denim at US$67.50 which arrived today.

The Tour Master Cortech DSX Denim Riding Pants looks and feels very much like Levi 501 jeans and are quality made from 13.5Oz Denim. The butt area is lined with soft leather and a perforated liner and the Knee area is also treated as such and in addition, has an inside compartment to house the CE-approved armor which is essentially a pliable, kneepad made of some durable, synthetic, shock absorbent material.

I usually wear a 34? waist with 30? inseam, but I opted to purchase the pants with a 32? inseam so that the pants legs don?t ride-up exposing ankle area when my knees are flexed in my seated position on the bike. A decision that I am very pleased with.

These jeans are made in China (like everything else these days) and are of very good quality. The jeans fit well and are extremely comfortable. The protective lining and knee-pads are indeed very unobtrusive.

Although I have no intention of ?dynamically testing? this equipment, I feel a lot more confident that I have done my utmost to negate injury should such an unfortunate occasion present itself.

The care instructions advise removal of the knee pads before washing. Gentle cycle, machine wash in cold water and hang dry. No bleach, no fabric softener, do not dry clean and do not tumble dry.

Composition:
Pants: 100% Cotton
Lining: 50% Polyester and 50% Washable Leather.

Sounds like $$ well spent. Thanks for the research. May go to the IMS this weekend here in Mpls. Ill check to see if there are any others.

Ok, I did not expect this at all. but, these have turned out to be THE most comfortable pair of jeans i've put on. Been in them most of the day yesterday riding around the community doing errands and stuff, so I've been on and off the bike a lot. Went for a long countryside ride in them at the crack of dawn this morning .....man, they're nice:-D

Mike, you have a problem similar to mine. Those 34" inseams aren't going to cut it when you get your legs bent up into riding position. I am looking for some riding pants myself, but I don't like wet/cold ankles and shins.

First Gear does have long sizes, but their longest is 35 or 35.5 inches; and to get that length you have to get a larger size than I am. I would settle for the oversize if I could get at least a 36" on the inseam; longer even better.

Keep us posted on your pants search. I am interested in what you find.

Hey Guys, When I was at the Int'l Bike Show at the Jacob Javitz Center in NY I saw these things for sale which might be a good solution for us "large inseam" guys, to help with cold ankles, rather than buying pants too long for walking, but just right for riding. The "Half Chaps" I saw at the show were made of nylon or Cordura, and had velcro enclosures the whole length. Seems like they could cut down on the wind a lot. Here's a link for just one I found on Google, although I'm sure there's more.

My problem also. The Tourmaster pants I have now fit me perfectly on the GS but when I get on the Concours, the pants shoot up to my knees.

That sounds like a great idea.
Have to look into those.

Original link is more expensive now. But you can get them here at $67.50:

I've been thinking about beefing up my riding gear lately and these look like great protection for a great price. Thanks for the review.
They do look like an excellent choice but, alas, 34 is the longest inseam.

Since this thread began I have found out that Fieldsheer makes tall textile riding pants with 36 and 37 inch inseams.

I just bought a pair of Fieldsheer riding jeans. I paid $70 and they are worth every penny. They are very comfotable. Now with my Fieldsheer leather jacket, sidi boots, alpinstars super moto gloves and my soon to be HJC "elbowz"(Ben Spies replica) helmet. (I also bought a set of Bohn knee and shin guards). I feel well protected. Gear is worth every penny.
