Differences between 1000G and 1100G head?

Anyone know how the 1100G head compares to the '80-'81 GS1000 head? Combustion chamber size the same or larger? Is the exhaust port height the same? I know the late model 1100G head has those nifty D shaped exhaust ports but is it the same otherwise? The part numbers are different so that's not a good sign for interchange.

For what it's worth. I've never compared the 2 side by side and only ever worked on one 1100G (it is / was very unusual over here) but from what I can remember, from back in the day, they look the same (other than the D ports).

Crank/clutch basket lower bits are different but according to the cycle mags of the day the 1000E and G are exchangable. Supposedly the racers went after the G heads because of said D shaped exaust ports. But again the cycle mags aren't always accurate.

Combustion chamber size and exhaust port location are the two main thing I’m trying to understand. There is a 1100G head on ebay I want to purchase, but I want to have the stock compression ratio and use a regular 1000 exhaust system (if I can find a good one that is).

Well the exhaust ports are the same spacing. As a matter of fact I've said before that any 750 and larger (minus the second gen 16v 700/750 and even they are the same spacing but different depth diameter) pipe will swap AT THE HEAD. I've examined it with multiple pipes from different GS models. The problem is USUALLY the rear brackets. The G pips were longer than the E by a touch. But that's easy enough to overcome. I do believe that Kurt (Dardoonk) used a 1100GK head on his 1000E motor build.

Well, I bought that 1100G head off ebay tonight. Less than 10k miles so couldnt' pass it up. Hopefully the combustion chamber is not much larger than the 1000 head. Concern with the exhaust ports is the height, not concern with the spacing. I plan to use an OE exhaust and want to fit like stock under the bottom of the engine.

Head I bought off ebay was a POS: several stripped exhaust bolt holes, gouges on some cam bearing, and three valve spring buckets jammed in crooked due to poor packaging.

Sent the head back at my cost after the seller somewhat indigently agreed to take it back saying he would refund my money "if" the head could be verified as being the same one that he shipped.

So now the guy has had the head back for three days and I still don't have a refund. Sent him a note though ebay asking when he's going to process the return and he hasn't answered the message.

How long should I wait before giving this guy negative feedback and fill out a paypal dispute? I'm pretty impatient about stuff like this some times.

damaged hesd ..... waiting for refund...

damaged hesd ..... waiting for refund...

hi guys i know its a touchy subject ..but i,d send him a couple of emails being polite ..but reminding him that your not in the market for alloy scrap metal.. you did want a good to very good working head... wait a week for him to send refund .......then post neg.. slaming feedback that will wake him up ...also let everybody know what trading name he goes under on ebay... so that we all don,t end up helping to clean his shed of the scrap metal he doesn,t want ... a while ago i purchased 3 watches off ebay .com .au in aust.. from sydney... her feedback was around 90 or lower ..all i ended getting was 3 smashed watches in a paper envelope which taught me a lesson:) regards david :)

I wouldn't be polite at all, he's a crook.
I hope you didn't pay much, ebay and paypal are pretty worthless at this.

Sometimes if I question the seller I take a little longer and use a postal money order, that way if he scams me it is Postal Fraud, serious stuff.

Keep all communication within Ebay.
File a case if unsatisfied with his responses. Ebay can see all communicatioin.
They refunded me my money on a pipe dream head that I never got.

Ed, did you ask about any imperfections before the purchase? If so and the seller verified it as being good in writing then you can dispute the issue with ebay/paypal. If not, and its stated in the auction as being "no refunds, as is" then you may be out the purchase money.
If you've emailed the seller with unsatisfactory results then deal with ebay/paypal only. Let them know what's going on and they will deal with the seller.

Leaving the seller feedback pretty much closes the deal, good or bad. I'd hold off on that till the deal is resolved.

Got my refund. Guy came though...sort of.

I got almost all of my money back but the entire process was a real pain so it's not like I feel good about it. It's hard for me to say the guy "came though" when he was so indignant about honoring the return and he never said he was sorry for shipping me a junk head and packing it with no padding in the first place.

That's why I am very ADAMANT when I ask a seller to DOUBLE box every head I buy. It is for the reason you've just dealt with. Some people are VERY lacking in common sense! Glad you got your money back. Post his Ebay info up so no one else buys it again when he re-posts it! Ray.

Lacking common sense...you got that right Ray. This guy packed the head without any padding or constraint for the valve buckets. The Post Office must have packed the box up side down in a truck because the valve buckets fell out and/or got jammed in at an angle. Some of the valve buckets that fell out wound up gouging one of the cam saddle bearings. Very aggravating. http://myworld.ebay.com/ebaymotors/bbohman/

Russr33 and I traded cylinder heads here recently and to pack it a good sturdy box with a piece of foam rubber egg crate stuff on the bottom was used. That box went from LA to Houston, back to LA, and I used it one more time to send this guy back the head in question. Damn good box if I must say so myself.

Sorry to hear of your eBay mishap - sometimes people just don't think.
I bought an SV1000 complete stock exhaust off eBay, when it arrived there was a header pipe sticking out of the box! It had split open and the post office taped it back up. The mufflers were packed in with the head pipes with 1, get that 1, piece of newspaper in between. The once-perfect mufflers looked like 100 monkeys had been beating on it with 100 hammers for 100 days. They ended up in the garbage, and the seller was not exactly apologetic, stating that he "had no experience in shipping anything, so didn't know how to pack a box".
Hmpf.

Hello;

Along the same vein as this thread, using a 1100 G head on a GS1000. I have the cylinders and head from a 1982 1100 GK that I thought of using on a 78 GS1000, maybe using stock 1100 pistons if I can find a set. Would be cheaper than boring and buying a larger piston, such as a 1166 kit. The holes all seemed to line up with those on the 1000. Any thoughts on this approach,

Also as for ebay. I've had too many times buying items that weren't described correctly or had lousy pics. Mostly when buying Brit bike parts, especially from the UK
