    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted.   • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Anybody realize anything figured out from 4.5 billion yrs, ago is a theory?
 
If you "figure something out with actual proof" it's fact. If you figure something out but there's no actual proof, it's a theory... Actual proof 4.5 billion yrs. old would be quite scarce.

A theory is a hypothesis that has ruled out other plausible possibilities in favor of one plausible, yet improvable possibility.

I recall hearing that a German guy came up with a theory that a lot of professionals in his field considered totally ridiculous.

His ridiculous theory said that mass and energy are the same physical entity.
If we were to give that absurdity of a theory just a bit of credence today, one wonders, could we not somehow apply it to something useful?

Before starting another thread on the subject of science, I thought it might be good to update this one.


The deprecative comments put forward regarding theory seemed to me just a wee bit suggestive of intolerance on the part of our gifted posters, but I also noted that no one responded to the quoted post so I will bring in a few more details as the "ridiculous" THEORY mentioned above later became fairly well known, as did that German guy who thunk it up




Even though the implications of his theory were vast, he expressed it rather simply as:

E=mc?​

The subject is "old hat" for me since I was involved in earth science back in the 80's. As to comparisons, in this case using Einstein as a reference point would be akin to holding Mel Brooks as an equivalent to Moses, at least when it comes to knowledge anyway.
