A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

Again, nvr2old is the one to listen to when it comes to paint and bodywork.
I don't use 1200 grit paper except on flat pieces of furniture (I assume you mean silicone carbide).

On the curved surfaces of motorcycle parts, I use 3m scuff pads, which conform to the surface.

I guess I should have said any wax with silicon in it. It's in most waxes and protects paint really well, but it totally cuts off the curing progress if used on paint less then 90 days old. Sorry for the confusion. The Meguiers #7 keeps the new finish looking nice, but still allows it to breathe.

Ok its not the best picture but here she is. Pretty happy with the results.
Looks so much better in the sun.
Still needs the decals applied and a coat of wax but I am waiting 90 days as per nvr2old.

Cheers

This is without the flash.
Its definitely not orange when outside.

Ok guys after lots of sanding, priming, sanding, painting, sanding, my paint is complete.
I just have to wet sand now and polish then apply the decals.
I'm happy with it for now, like I said I will get a proper paint job down the road.
Cheers
Paul

I think they look great! I had my stuff redone professionally and was told that the spray paint I put on the plastics really made a mess of things for the painter.

He said that even though he sanded off all the rattle can stuff, the plastic was contaminated and he would get cracking in the paint he was putting on.

He finally did solve it by doing some soda blasting. The ordeal took him several tries.

He also told me that spray paint dries from the outside in so since I did so many layers too quickly and thickly, the paint coats underneath stayed soft.

You did an excellent job on the paint, it looks great!
For what it's worth, I had a friend of mine paint the fairing and side covers for me using the 2010 Dodge Inferno Red paint and it color matched perfectly, the only way you could tell that the paint wasn't original is by looking at the side covers and paying close attention to the GS1100E, the original is done GS1100E where when he painted the new badge on it is GS 1100E only someone with a sharp eye or someone who really knows their '82 GS1100E would realize that the spacing between the S and the 1 is a little wider than original.

About three years ago, maybe four, when I had the parts painted, I had posted a thread showing the whole process but, I guess it has run its course and succumbed to the cyber reaper because I cant find it now.

Wacky that is good information regarding the Dodge color.
I will look into that when I do eventually get the bike painted properly.
Right now I am going to ride it and enjoy it for a few seasons.

Cheers guys
Paul

Took a little spin around the block.
I will apply the decals next spring and I have new turn signals coming.
Was great to be on the old GS again, can't wait till spring!!! LOL

Cheers
Paul

Couldn't help myself I had to apply the decals.
Don't want to wait for next spring.

Cheers
Paul

Putting the decals on will be fine. It sat long enough, especially after opening it up during the polishing stage. The bike looks real nice, you should be very proud of the results. ;)

Agree with the others, very nice result. You have every right to be proud of her.
