I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

Easy way to mount exhaust by yourself

So I was re-mounting my stock dual exhaust after removing the whole shebang for cleaning and I realized I was going to need a helper to lift the other side (I had it all clamped together in one peice under the bike). Not having a helper immediately handy, I had a rare flash of ingenuity instead.

I tied a rope to the far muffler and slung it over the seat. Then I could lift one side with my hand and the other side by yanking the rope. Once I had the exhaust assembly at the right height, I lashed the rope to a footpeg and jockeyed the headers into the engine head with my free hand. Then just throw in the bolts and Bob's-yer-uncle.

I'm probably not the first one to figure this out, but I was proud of my little idea and had to share it. ;-)

excellent!

excellent!

That job is a bitch alright! Good idea, i'm going to try it.

when I did mine I just stacked trash under the bike until the whole exhaust was the right height.

This might be a good job for the otherwise-completely-useless motorcycle lift I got for Xmas.

I usually pad a jack stand with a rag and move it back and forth to get just the right height.

I don't know why the %$#@! Suzuki couldn't have run the exhaust 1/2 inch higher so I could remove the rear wheel without taking one side of the exhaust loose...

well there a I was, getting the exhaust back on after installing the new tire. It was cold, pi$$ing rain, and I was 30 minutes late for my date. my helper had taken off for his date already because his girl can yell lounder.

line up the down pipes with the engine as best you can, and go around to the rear of the bike. grab one muffler in each hand, lift and pull back untill you feel the pipes slide into the engine. cuss as nessisary. Once they are in the engine let go of one side, keeping a firm grip and pull on the other muffler.

bolt it to the frame. (you had the bolt and washer on the rachet set up before hand.)

try not to fall on your arse.

Oh god, I almost did that when I got my new tires. Then I realized that it is so much easier to just put the bike on the center stand and remove both shocks to allow the wheel to drop down. If that doesn't work, you could put something under the swingarm to hold it up high enough to clear the exhaust.

I don't have to take the exaust off on mine, but the sprocket doesn't fit inder the chain gaurd unless the bike is WAY up in the air...

For the love of Pete...

For the love of Pete...

Wished I would have come across this thread before I put my new exhaust on:? ! But, I got them on after wrenching my back, getting my under three son off my back, and losing my gas tank which I forgot was not completely on. Other than that, it is in the shop with me now awaiting a carb synch...and now a touch up job on the tank.
