Just saw this one, kinda made me dizzy...........

82 Yamaha vertigo 920

That's is funny and so is the fact they never made a Virago 920, only 750 and 1000.

May want to check that Sandy... "1982 Yamaha Virago XV920", I think... Probably OK but I just never wanted a V twin.

Saw one yesterday trying to sell a 1982 Honda 919. Fellows I ride a 919 and it wasn’t made in 82.

The XV920 was not a Virago. More of a standard model rather than a cruiser. Enclosed chain drive rather than shaft drive as well.

The U.S. models must have been different than the Canadian models, like said our XV920's had VIRAGO on the side covers, the fancier, black and gold model, had MIDNIGHT VIRAGO on the side covers, and they were cruisers, high step seat, longer forks, tear drop tanks, and shaft dr... not a guarantee, but pretty dang sure.

Apparently there was a standard XV920 and an XV920 Virago. A friend of a friend raced the regular version for Yamaha

I'm not sure where you're getting your facts from but they're WRONG. Unfortunately I don't have any pictures of mine but I can guarantee you that it was a Virago 920 with SHAFT (not chain) drive

Well fuddle duddle. Never heard of them until now. I did some digging looks like the 920 shaft drive might have been a US thing. I don't remember us getting them, only the XV920RH (chain drive) Europe got what they called a TR1 which similar to the 920RH but was 1000, 980 actually. I think the only Viragos we got were the smaller ones and the 750 and 1000.

LOL This has been a dizzying discussion.............

Yamaha Viagra! The 920 was a Virago as I recall through the mists of time. Of course, being cruiser-phobic, I sort of liked the standard, AKA XV920. The early to mid-80s were a weird time for bikes, with turbos, gold plated / midnight specials, Honda going all over the place, etc.

There was known to be a hard to find 920 chain drive model that could be swapped out for the shaft drive, came across that on a repair forum while thinking what I could do custom wise with the back end of the bike.

The national speed limit was 55mph when that bike was new and it absolutely purred at that speed, get much above 60 and you're going to the dentist to get your fillings re tightened.

This goes back to days before facebook.

I had not owned a bike for a few years and decided to get another one.

I saw an ad for a Gold Wing and went to see it.

It was owned by a gay guy who said he got it as a gift, but even though it was licenced and insured, he and his partner were afraid to ride it, so they chose to sell it.

As he rolled it out of the garage it was obviously a much smaller bike than expected so I asked him why he advertised it as a Gold Wing: he pointed to the Honda wing symbol on the tank.

It was actually a CM450. twin but I was there so I took it for a test ride and liked it......then paid for it and rode it home. My oldest son from last marriage still has it.
:) :)
