A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Fastest way to get SS exhaust bolts?

I was planning on getting SS bolts for the exhaust anyway, but upon my first longer ride with the 1150 today, several bolts vibrated right out of the head.

At least they didn't break off in the head...

So, I need some new bolts ASAP. What's the fastest route to that goal?

Hardware store?

BTW, common hardware store grade stainless hardware is about 20% weaker than the stock Suzuki bolts. Make sure you use lots of anti seize on those bolts.

Are you guys kidding? I've never seen Lowes, Home Depot or any local hardware stores carrying something like that. They always claim it's too odd a size...

my local ace hardware has all sorts of stainless metric stuff, socket head screws etc.

The two in my area have a section of drawer cabinets with , I think they call it 'spectilty fasteners'. Like snap fings, o rings, and stainless hardware. I think 1 or 2 drawers are stainless metric.

Yup....My Ace has a very good selection of metric SS stuff...

Ace Hardware....find the section that has the thin plastic containers of specialty items. You should be able to find hex head and socket head bolts in stainless steel.

My local Tru Valu hardware has that stuff too.... You do have to dig a bit beyond the rows of gleaming English fixings to find it :S :D

Can anyone recommend a length? I'm not even sure the bolts that were on it were stock...

Stock is 8X40mm, so you should be able to get them at any real hardware store. Or at least they will have a small empty box where they used to be... You might have to check a few stores to find eight of them.

FYI, Meantards, bLowes, and Home Despot are not real hardware stores.

Bolt Depot was mentioned for bolts in any quantity, and McMaster-Carr is an excellent source for stainless goodies by the box. The "official" term for stainless allen head bolts is "Stainless Steel Socket Head".

Some bikes (like my GS850) use 8X35mm bolts, and these are sort of an in-between size and not generally available locally.

I go to Rocky's Ace hardware in Fitchburg MA and they have the best assortment that i have found. It sounds like most Ace hardware stores carry about the same stuff. The places i've checkout are Home Depot, Lowes, napa, cap, advance auto, car quest, and aubochon hardware and none of them come nowhere close to Ace in mm SS.

So, given that the stock Suzuki bolts are 20% harder than SS, would you guys still recommend the SS route?

I run S.S. socket-head cap screws on the two outer pipes(prettier), and studs w/S.S. nuts on the inner two(helps support header during remove/install). Both are trouble-free...use anti-seize either way. Got all of it at Ace Hardware, in the specialty fasteners section.
