    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

This site is actually the best forum that I have been on. I'm not saying this to suck up to the "old timers" on here or anything, I actually mean it. I have posted questions on here, and read questions that have been asked and asked and asked over and over and all I ever read for responses are helpful suggestions!

One of the Subaru forums that I'm part of, if you post anything even close to something that people have read before, they get all mad, and flame you telling you exactly where you and your question can go. Then someone will post to use the search button even if you posted that you couldn't find a correct answer after searching!

So just like some other people have said, THANK YOU! Especially a huge thank you to everyone for their patients will all of the noobie questions.

and my bike doesn't seem to be running right. I just bought this really old gs850 and it's hard to start and even harder to keep running, but I haven't done anything to it yet. It's still the same gas that's been in it for the past 5 years while it sat too! Anyone know what the 20 min fix is????

I'm partial to dynamite-lol, ( ahh smell the sarcasm-and yet some noob will no doubt read this and get upset. Bet if you post a subaru question here you would actually get a good answer and solve any subaru related problems too! )

What I like best is the part where he doesn't get the answer he wants here, so he goes to Craig's List for expert advice. Yeah...that's going to help.

Almost every motorcycle I ever bought from CL "Ran fine when parked...just needs new battery and carb kit."
 
Sounds like the info was given correctly. :-k Carbs "can" be scary if it's your first time...in my opinion, they're one of the most FUN fixes to a bike. The instant difference is a GREAT reward! :o
 
There are some folks from Philly who appreciate you guys!!:)

Due to this site, I've become obsessed with my bike(S) and suzuki GS's in general, the joy of motorcycling, and spending all my extra loot on something other than my girlfriend. WAY TO GO GUYS! Nothing better than hearing her sigh when I check the forums...one last time before bed... to see if someone posted a response to a thread about a baffle.

Now that I'm thinking of it, this site will have me single in no time.:rolleyes: Think of all the money the 1100 will have.

I'm a newbie

I just want to say that I think everyone hopes to buy a bike and ride off into the sunset, but as was pointed out, a 30y/o bike needs some attention. Fixing/rebuilding a bike needs motivation and some people don't have it, I've run into problems with that on other projects. Fortunately I am still going strong on this one and visiting this site with all the enthusiasts and plethora of a knowledge keep me going

Or weeks in my case! About one week per carb (for me) usually get's er done righty-alrighty! But the YEARS of riding without the "problems" are pricelesssssssssss! ;)

One thing about this site...if it's GS related, it's been done here...several times. Why argue with the teachers, unless they're wrong! :oops: :D

An even better idea, just send them to me in the burbs and then you can even visit them when your therapist says you are able. :lol: :-\\\ :lol:

I had several emails with Dave the poster of this. He seemed to ask the same thing several times and did not do his job correctly and does not want to spend any money if necessary. He was probing for an answer without really doing some trouble shooting. He was a customer of mine when I worked at a local bike shop. I offered to work on the bike at my home for a fee but he was not interested. Oh well. Now he bashes us on CL. What bullcrap.
 
It seems by his prior posts that he did not even make a real effort systematicly to rule out or prove suggestions made by members to solve his problem.

It's one thing if you don't have skill or experience it's another thing if you are just cheap, lazy and want everything spoon fed to you like he did.

I'll admit not all the advice i have gotten has proven correct, but at least i made a sincere effort to try the advice given to me and prove or disprove respectfully; and with logical evidence what worked and what did not so others could take my experience and do better.

It's true about leading a horse to water but if the horse complains shoot it and put it out of our ( oops-lol ) it's misery!
 
Well, without being judgmental (who, me?), there are people who should be making monthly payments instead of turning wrenches. You don't need to know squat about mechanics to be able to ride a motorcycle, and perfectly reliable bikes roll off assembly lines every day.

Another option is to buy (maybe finance) a good used or professionally restored bike, which someone else has worked back to a reliable condition.

Now, if you can't hack the payments and still want a reliable bike, well, you can marry beyond your station, you can inherit or you can roll up your sleeves and DIY. None looks very likely, so I guess he needs either a job or a sugar mommy.
