A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Getting more interested in 2-up riding

LOL, I don't think anyone's interested in gatekeeping, Dave... but yeah, a GK or a G with luggage does make a pretty good passenger platform. Finding one that's already set up (or at least a good basis for bringing up to snuff) and near enough can certainly take some dedication and time.

Yet when they do pop up here, it can take a long time to find the right buyer. The Gold Wing market is a lot larger and more active.

That GL1500 looks like an excellent answer to your question. Super-low mileage, and owners tend to take very good care of them. Let us know how the missus likes it!

Oh yeah, I did take the wife out a few times on the '81 1000G I use to have and sold to Robert Barr, who sold to Simon, who dumped it on the way to Brown County, who sold to Jim, who sold to whomever. Ha! That bike got around. It was ok for 2 up but I was looking to maximize her comfort since it's hard enough to get her on to begin with. I'll be picking up the GW Saturday.

Hey ddanie, didn't you have a GSX1100G in the past? My wife loves ours with that little 10" backrest. Also how would it have compared with the old GS1000G? No doubt, couldn't try to compare either of them to a fully dressed Goldwing... apples to oranges

Yes I did and I sold it when I got the FZ1 repaired and back on the road. Really no comparison between it and the 1000G. The 1000G had a better seat for 1 or 2 riders in my opinion. Hard to beat those big ole' couch slabs. The GSX1100G was much faster than the 1000G. I feel like the 1000G was better at cornering and overall handling.

Agreed, I'd always wanted a GSX1100G, but after I got one decided the only advantage was the extra power. Those old 1000G's were sure comfortable and about as nimble as any big shaft dr., I've ridden. Congrats on the wing, it's gon'na be very different. Hopefully just what you're looking for.

Thanks Jedz. I happened to catch your youtube video of the GL1500. AND...I am buying a 1999 GL1500 this Saturday. The bike is like new and has around 40K miles. Everything works and has been meticulously cared for. Looking forward to some nice rides with my wife.

As the resident Goldwing enthusiast I am offering my advice and support should you need anything -
I only owned. rode and maintained 3 of these GL1500's for years -
My last one was the 1996 Pearl Blue that I sold with 160,000 miles on it - and I am sure it hit 200K without any trouble -
I only sold it to pay for my Orange GL1800 ;)

HAHAHA No kidding! That is great!
I think you'll enjoy it. The weight is something to get used to but once you do it's no big deal. I rode through the madness of Burlington with it the other day and back home (150ish miles) so City and highway. I have to say it's a dang good motorcycle. It just soaks up anything you throw at it.
Congrats on the new (to you) Goldwing! My bike has 78K miles ( got it with 75K) and have been told with just oil, pads, tires and gas these bikes can easily get to 200K miles. I do intend on touring with it next season.
Anyway enjoy the 2 up riding and the new bike!
Best,
-Jedz

The GL1500s are great bikes, but be prepared to spend an afternoon removing and refitting bodywork to get at something you could easily access otherwise.
Several tales of woe relating to lost time from a friend with one, and he's no newbie.

Yeah, I'm aware of that. At first I didn't want to have to deal with all the tupperware, but it's just time. No biggie.

Ew, that is almost a different world.

With this nice weather this weekend, I suspect you are out riding it.

Tell us how you like it. Tell us how she likes it.

.

Yes, we went for a nice ride on Saturday to go to lunch and then hiking. She likes it very well thank you. It's going to take some getting use to for me, but it will be fine as long as her comfort level is maximized, which was my goal. I now have a family car and a sports car.

Well done!

I recall a guy on this forum a while back who owned a Kawasaki Voyager for the same purposes. They still have a certain following, but it's a LOT easier to find information, parts, etc. for the Gold Wings. Honda got a lot exactly right.
