A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

SAY LYNN I HAVE DYNA COILS. AND I WAS WONDERING WHY THE CHOICE OF CHANGING TO A DYNA IGNITION?? I AM NOT AGAINST IT I JUST DONT HAVE ENOUGH KNOWLEDGE TO GIVE MYSELF A REASON FOR CHANGING. IS THE TIMING ADJUSTABLE WITH THE DYNA??

Dom in Oz the opinion of the speed shops is that the advance units on 4V GS engine was a bit weak and tended to float around , therefore they all recommend the change to a full Dyna setup.

OK Duncan

I think it's more for reliability, not having to adj the points. I couldn't pass it up for $100

Fit the Dyna ignition, set the timing, put the cover back on and forget it. It really is that reliable, plus it gives a better spark & therefore a better burn of fuel, so a smoother running motor & less maintenance!
It has to be the easiest and yet most effective mod you can do!

The 2V advance unit is not exactly rocket science either!

I do find with an electronic ignition on that the timing is rock steady with the mechanical advance. I just fixed the bike after it started acting strange. The advance was freezing open and shut. So it was either great up top or fluffy down low, or good down low and lacking up top. I was originally looking for a carb problem as it felt like an intermittent blockage.

Electronic advance would be better I think, especially if you could hook it up with throttle position sensors etc (eg bandit setup)

is a dyna III igntion worth 100 bucks if i have a bike without points and has a transistor timing system that seems to be performing well. will there be any performance increases, i am already running accel coils.

wrong area to ask about dynas but everyone else is doin it
