A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

GS1000 fuel tap / petcock

I've got the cr*ppy tap without a reserve and you have to use a screwdriver to switch to prime. A couple of questions:

I've stripped the thing down and the diaphragm looks fine. However, it was always a bit reluctant to work on prime. All the other GS taps I've seen have a little prong that pops out on prime and shifts the diaphragm - this has got nothing like that inside. What happens (or is meant to happen) internally on this type when you switch to prime?

Also, as there's no reserve (whoever thought that one up Mr Suzuki?) I'm toying with swapping to a sensible tap fitted with one. Hole centres are 50mm - none of the others I've got in my stash are close. Any ideas of taps from other models with the 50mm hole centres?

i would buy another oem one or get a pingel.....

Z1 has plenty of lower cost options, that work just as well as a new oem one....

Tap

Tap

Do yer self a big favour chuck it in the bin and buy a pingel one the best money Ive spent on me Gs yet.

I've already got a couple of Pingels kicking around (and a really nice other make as well - dunno the brand but beautifully made) but I'm a bit of a forgetful old f*rt and I'd be likely to end up forgetting to turn it off

I'm more curious than anything - just how does that override work to get the thing to run on prime? I can't for the life of me see how it can work and I know it's gonna niggle me until I can find out how.

i put a pingel on mine,

once you get used to turning it on and off every time you wont forget, it just becomes habit....

I swear by Briggs and Stratton! Only $3.50 at the local hardware store!

true true......

i would be using a hardware store petcock if i could find one around here.....

crappy stores locally

Wally,

Let me know if you have probs finding one. I don't mind ordering one for you & shipping it over if that's what it takes.

I have one from an 78 1000E on the shelf (old one) at the mo & a 80 550 in pieces so I could measure the hole centres for you on those.....

Dan :)

I've bought 1 and had two extra ones from the dealer as 2 were faulty as new.

Pingel?? taps are not avaliable here in the UK.

Suzuki mad

most of the gs1000 petcock holes are spaced 44mm hole center to hole center

Is this the goofy petcock that you have? I think I've been afflicted with the same.

That's the blighter. Looks as if someone in the factory nicked all the levers! You turn it vertically to prime using a screwdriver or small key (written in very small leters is 'Pri'). However, when you take it to bits there doesn't appear to be any internal mechanism so how it works is a mystery.

the man only wants to know how the bloody thing WORKS!

not a single reply on that...

sorry, i dunno either :D

In the ultrasonics inspection world we call it FM - F'n Magic baby!

More info requiered.

Yes they are :D

OK, spill the beans. Who sells then in the UK.

Any Yes, thats the same style tap that I've sent back twice for being faulty direct from Suzuki brand new. First on leaked out where you turned it on the second wouldn't allow any fuel out on run or prime.

Suzuki mad

Trawled around and found this:

Now I know how it's supposed to work - you have to crank the bike to initiate prime. What a POS
