Henry! :-D
I did post it on CM. Search it. It's there. Truth be told, I don't think anyone noticed, or cared. :?
Btw, If you need to contact me about that "special" part we talked about, here would be better. 8-[
Keep in touch.

#-oI certainly missed it!
I'm working on reorganizing my garage space. We're adding a second floor! So I won't have to keep knocking my shins on dead bikes while I work to bring one back around. \\:D/
After that's done I'll go ahead and pull that part and send it on.

Took too long, but now it's done...

So the question is, "will it stop"?
Oh yeah, it stops. One finger is all you need.
It's running Galfer SS lines from a Kawasaki ZG1000, Gold Fren brake pads (I never heard of 'em either, I'll let you know how they work out) and the stock master.
My next project is to somehow decrease the stopping power in the rear. The 13mm rear master from a GSXR does too good a job. It has good feel, but being 13mm, instead of the stock 14mm, it's compounding the problem.
I would like to go to a GSXR rear caliper, but I either need a longer hanger, or a smaller rear disk. The mods never end.

Sorry to drag this back open.... What was the reason for 78 1000 forks?
I presume you mean the two disk E model? Is the spacing different on the caliper bracket?

How's it been working out since you last posted? Fine I assume....

The spacing is different between the E and C models. The single disc C uses a larger diameter single disc than the E does with it's double.
I an using a C left fork and big disc in conjunction with the smaller E disc on the right.

Works great. Got the rotors drilled, new pads, galfer lines. 7,000 miles and counting on the swap. No problems yet.
The rear brake is now useless in a really hard stop. I think it may be lifting the rear wheel though.

That doesn't make sense to me, 8 Track definitely has two fork legs on his bike that are the same, mount the fender & both use the big disk.....

Does the 78C have a brake caliper mount on it's right leg even though it's not used?

Dan :)

No, it doesn't.

The E's have dual disc. Small ones.
The C's use 1 bigger disc. Right fork has no mounts.

Jeff is using E forks and big discs because he's using different calipers with a custom mount.

I didn't know about the difference between the E's and C's so I only bought a right fork and caliper. I'm still using the C left fork.

Billy's got it right, Salty. The E forks are supposed to be used with the two small disks.
I am using two large rotors, my own lower caliper mounts, and two twin piston calipers on regular "E" forks. That is "the mod".

Like Billy said, the "C" does not have a caliper mount on the right side. Only on the left, and it's up higher on the fork leg because the single disk bikes use a larger rotor.

This is the bike before most of the modifications.

And now. Note GSXR rearsets

Cool, that's what I thought you'd done so the forks you are using are the same as the all the others, they don't need to be 78 they can be 79, 80, 81 etc etc.

I believe even when they went to slightly different calipers with the squared pads & slotted rotors the fork legs remained the same for the 2 disk setup...

Thanks again for info,

Dan :)

Ahh, now I see what you're getting at. The answer is yes. It should work on those years.

You going to take the plunge and make the swap???

Watch this space.... ;)

I will! :-D Let me know how it works out.

Btw, there used to be a lot of threads started by people wanting to upgrade their calipers.
After I started this thread, not so many...but, no one else has claimed to have done the swap either.
I'm interested to see how other people go about it.

What's the rotor size you're using? I believe stock E/G is about 270mm. Are they 300mm?

Cheers,

Dan
