A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

Share some photos with us. I'd like to see 'em. :-D

Huh... I guess you just bolted them up & use the stock 2 disk setup?

Ran into a problem. You guys may want to think about this when you do your swap.

I first ran this setup with stock springs. It squashed 'em in short order.

Switched to progressives, and ran 20wt oil. It rode kind of harsh, but I lived with it and it held together.

When I went to 15 wt fork oil, It blew a seal within a couple weeks. The new seals had not been in there more than 9 months. (yes, they were installed correctly)

Verdict: Too much sag. With the progressives and no spacers, the forks were bottoming out on hard stops. Granted, they gave a plush ride with no spacers, but they were no match for the extra weight transfer of the super duty brakes.

Depending on you weight, you'll have to start with a 1/2" spacer at the very least.

I have about 1/2" on the skunk & it seems fine so far. I'm 165 though. 15w oil.

Dan :)

Little bit of a drunk post but, whatever.

Was looking to do this brake mod and get some better braking with the steel lines I'm gonna order soon. It looks as the I was in a hurry on Ebay and bought the wrong calipers. F#$k!!!!

I bought a set from a 1994 Kawa ZX6 Ninja. Didn't notice that they're a 4 piston setup. I got em at a good price regardless. I'll take a look this weekend, and mock them up to see if they'll work. If so, I'll post the progress, fab work, and end result. If they work, then it's another mod to ad to the list. If not....I'll paint em', rebuild em' and sell em' for twice the price.

I'll keep you posted.

Get painting... They don't work, they are too wide & foul the wheel when mounted in place! You'd need to space out the disk as well & even then I don't think there is room between the disk & the fork leg for it to work.

Dan :)

Again, for those thinking of doing this swap, read this thread carefully. Ask questions. Understand what you're doing BEFORE you start.

It only works if you use fork legs from a dual disk bike.
Rotors from a single disk bike.
And the correct calipers listed on the first page.

It's that simple. If you don't understand how, or why it works, read it again, ask questions or don't attempt it.

Same setup with the Saltymonk brackets installed

Say Jeff, just curious, but whats that tiny little wire running along your speedo cable there??

It could be the pick up for the digital speedometer. Then again, it might be part of the guidance system for the bike-to-car missles. Can't remember.

For those that may be interested. Below is a twin piston caliper set up for the GS models with a single disc. You get better braking without changing the front forks to adapt for the twin discs. The standard heavyweight GS disc has been replaced with a Honda CBR disk. The standard GS discs of any size will not work on this conversion.

Note also that stainless steel brake line has been added which attaches from caliper directly to the master cylinder.

The only thing to do now is replace one bolt that is different from the rest and I am not happy about the sharpish bend in the speedo cable as it passes the caliper.

Nice job Don. Looks like Earl's brake hoses there.:) Nice work!

Suzuki Don, is that an f3 rotor?

I WILL find a way to do a dual setup with wire wheels and those rotors.

SEX.

With no mention of a spacer, and the use of the single disk fork, I'm guessing 98/99 CBR900rr Fireblade.
