GS1000EC '79 air box boots (tube / outlet) change problem.

Guys,
during my restoration of Suzuki GS1000EC from 1979 I have encountered following problem, namely diagnosis showed that it is necessary (due to age) to replacement boots (tubes, outlets) connecting the air box with carburetors. Unfortunately originally it is one item with air box and there is nowhere to buy this item new (part number 1371049010 - it also has no economic sense).

I have also tried to look for replacement (just boots) but couldn't find anything that is a confirm fit. There was a tread indicating that 750 from '79 could fit but as i can see on technical diagrams this is also a one item.


Has anyone done something like this and maybe has an idea how to approach this? What could be other solutions?

I know nothing about Poland, but a quick look at Ebay, here in the U.S. they are available both aftermarket ($40 pr. set of 4) or OEM ($40 ea.)

I used Fernco plumbing connectors on my gs1000g. They cost about $6 each. 2 are required because you cut them in half. They even come with clamps. I have some pictures I can post.

+1 on this suggestion. I bought those for my 79 a few years back and they are good and supple today.

Thanks a lot for all the advices - the problem was not that much in finding a part itself rather than making sure it will fit. Since most of parts are available in US / Japan it would be a pain in a** if it will come after 4 weeks and turned out not fitting. I will then go with cruzinimage.net and buy boots from there.

@Eli69 - I was thinking at first about something similar but carburetors are "hanging" from one side on boots and from the other on manifolds so I was concerned that such "boots" may be to soft to keep carburetors in place.

Good point. You would have to look at different sized Ferncos for the vm carbs. I think if I could get the boots for $40 I'd probably do that.

Correct sized Fernco would clamp to the VM carb. outlet just fine, but I think, the other end needs a flange, 2 screw holes & an "O" ring to mount to the flat surface at the head. On the early models there was nothing sticking out for a fernco to clamp to. Just say'in.

Yes but I think mr. Cassius is looking for carb to air box connections. I may have just gotten lucky with the Ferncos fitting on the CV carb and into the air box though. On vm carbs I just used pods.

Dang-it, you caught me, you're right. I's on the wrong side of the carbs. Ebay.....77-79 Suzuki GS 1000 carburetor air cleaner box duct boots 4 boots 21-S13710. aftermarket from Japan...may be worth looking at.

Just to confirm - Eli69 is right I'm looking for carb to air box connections. In fact I have already ordered them on Ebay (77-79 Suzuki GS 1000 carburetor air cleaner box duct boots 4 boots 21-S13710) so only 3 weeks and will be here

By the way, do you know any good method of changing them? The old ones are hard as stone so the idea in to warm them up and pull out or cut them out if the firs won't work. After that I will warm up the new ones and try to squeeze them into the holes in airbox.

Mr. Cassius, I think those old boots will come out without too much trouble, and the new ones should be flexible enough to go in pretty easy too.

Just for fun here are the pics of a fernco on my gs1000g. You can see the part where I cut them up against the carb. I could have made that neater but this bike is not meant to be pretty.

In case some one doesn't know what a fernco is... (they come in many different sizes too).
