If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

GS1100E turn signal 3 wire

e23mike

Forum Newbie
In rebuilding a 1982 gs1100e I have found 3 wires coming from the rear turn signals All the wiring diagrams show only 2. The 3rd wire from each signal had just been taped together with no power supply Those wires were for a low beam bulb as in running lights but when I gave them power off of the tail light wire, the bulbs barely lit up as the wire was too small Any idea what the extra light is for and where the power is supposed to come from

There is a Gray wire for the License Plate Light in the vicinity on this 1100 wiring diagram. Could be that?

Could it be that someone changed the rear turn signals for a set of front turn signals that have running lights in them?

Not sure what "barely lit up" means. The running light side of the bulb is supposed to be waaay dimmer than the turn signal side.

Yes I know the running light is supposed to be much dimmer, but the light barely glows at all when powered off the tail light running light . When I feed it with a jumper wire it is much brighter, so I just figured the tail light wire is undersized for all the amperage of all 3 lights..I guess my next question is--is there even supposed to be a running light in the turn light. The wiring diagram doesn't show one?? I,m going to go over the one line again to see if I missed a feed wire, but I'm looking at a diagram with a magnifying glass which makes it a little difficult.

No, no running lights supposed to be on rear, like 1978GS750E said, somebody put front on rear. No clue why tail light feed isn't working fine for running lights, I'd have thought it would be the optimum source to use.
