A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

I'd already posted the picture below in my 'signing-in' thread, but thought I'd start a new thread to document the re-build.

Rear wheel in..

Rear wheel in..

And this is where I'm at just now

I mean the wheel colour,at least on that picture it looks gray. Most people seem to think the stock colour is a matte or satin black, they are dark grey stock.I have no real problem with painting wheels black if you want but if you are after stock looking wheels it's dark grey.Just a "thing" with me,using breaks when you mean brakes drives me absolutely bonkers, have to control the urge to flame when I see that one.

Yes, the wheel is dark grey. It's actually a Volvo colour, which was the nearest match I could find to what I could see of the original paint.

Been a while, but I've finally got the front forks done. But I have a dumb question....

The headlight brackets fit around the upper stanchion, but they're handed, and I've forgotten which way to fit them. The manual isn't clear, and neither are photos that I've found.

So, should the headlight be in the higher or lower of the two possible positions?

I'm not sure! I picked them up several years ago at an autojumble, with the intention on using them on a GT550 I was restoring at the time.

They're a perfect fit for the GS, cosmetically they're probably not as good as they look in the photos. I suppose the most important question is 'how well do they work?', and I can't answer that yet.

Finally got the forks done and fitted. This was an expensive bit - new springs and service parts, plus several stainless steel pieces.

Hey,

Have you made any progress?

I'm going to be poutting my GS550EN backl together soon.

Would like to see how yours comes out.

Regards, Stephan.

I'm progressing slowly. At the moment I'm polishing the front wheel. The discs and all the fasteners are ready to fit. I'll post some more photos sometime soon.

Took a while, but I finally have the front wheel finished and fitted.

Next up is the rear caliper. I've already dismantled it - it will be expensive!
