A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

Hi. Firstly, apologies if this is a really stupid question or if it's been posted before (I had a quick look but couldn't see anything), but which way up does the oil filter cover go? A mechanic mate told me that the 'drain plug' should go at the bottom (same as pics in the Clymer manual), but looking at pics in the Suzuki manual (and the official parts diagram), it's described as the 'oil pressure inspection plug' and should go at the top. Is there a correct way up or doesn't it matter?

Welcome to the forum! Post up some pictures of your bike - there are not so many of them around!

On the bike I am working on at the moment (not mine), the oil filter cover has that plug at the top. The bike is very original and has done only 9 800 km, so chances are good that it should be that way.

Not sure if it can mount the other way around, or if it will make any difference?

"Not sure if it can mount the other way around, or if it will make any difference?"

my plug is towards bottom... Let's a bit more oil drain IF you were not intending to pull filter but wanted to change oil.
The stuff about being the "oil inspection plug" is interesting- I might measure the pressure to see how my 35 yearold oil pump is coping.
I think the parts fiche shows it at top for drawing clarity.

Thanks for answering guys. Looks like it doesn't matter which way it goes up! It actually fits quite happily either way as the bolt are evenly spaced. You'd think they'd make it so it only fitted one way.

Here's a pic of my bike. It's still a work in progress as the carburation is dire and it won't rev beyond 5,000. The carbs are currently away being ultrasonically cleaned. I'm hoping that's going to be the magic bullet!
