    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Hi everyone. HELP my 1977 gs750 is shaking my cage !:confused:. It has a rattle that comes and goes, i have set valve gaps rebuilt the camchain tensioner i dont think the chain is too old as i can see a gold master rivet link and the bike has only 30K on the clocks. If it is idling and you tip it over ot the right it goes quiet:o, stand it up and its back:eek:. I have uploaded two short videos to youtube.

The bike runs great and strong and no smoke or oil burning and good mpg, any ideas please.

Hi, pulling the clutch in makes no difference. Just been out for a ride about 25 miles and got back and its gone!, i am thinking of pulling it apart but dont want to as it pulls great. It is an embarrasing sound seeing as i am a mechanic and am puzzled by the tipping over thing ?. Thanks for your interest.

Sounds like an extreme case of "cam walk". :-k

My wife's bike sounds a bit like that for a few knocks, then goes away for a few seconds, then returns.

First thing to check is cam chain tension. I know you said that you rebuilt the tensioner, but that does not mean that the tensioner is installed correctly. :oops:

After installation, the setscrew needs to be loosened so the plunger can take up slack, snug up the setscrew, back it out 1/4 to 1/2 turn, then lock it in that place with the lock nut.

If "cam walk" is the problem, you can ignore it. My wife's bike has had that noise for about 25,000 miles now, it hasn't gotten any better, but it also hasn't gotten any worse.

Hi Dennis,
I'm going to throw a curve ball here and ask have you checked the oil pressure? Just wondering if the oil pump is worn resulting in low pressure to the head.

Hi, i have cherry picked the best cams with very little end float, i have plenty of spares and have given other members parts to help them. also i have used 2 different tensioners and fully understand how they work. I have uploaded another short video to youtube, it has a normal aircooled gs sound.

Hi, thanks for the oil pressure question. Just checked it, and at idle it is about 2psi and at 4000rpm 9psi engine warm. That seems ok :).

Seems ok. Not sure if you know but the workshop manual states 1.42psi @ 3000rpm and 60℃

So plenty pressure, and its making that noise again. Looking for the nearest hanging tree for my noose:D. Its looking like i will strip it just to settle it:mad:. Going to repaint it over winter, got my decals from diablo cycle yesterday.
 
I would guess it's a noise from the cam chain, maybe flapping against a knackered guide. Double check you set the tensioner properly before pulling anything apart to take a look.

Oh - and it could be a stiff link (the join link maybe if it's had a new chain).

That's a good find - I've never heard of that problem before. Maybe it's just one or all of them. Let us know how you get on.

Were the new buckets and different in diameter from the old ones?

I have always wondered why some engines were much quieter than others.

I can't remember what the clearance is supposed to be, but I haven't ever seen any obvious wear in the bore or the bucket itself. Have noticed some engines are much louder than others for no apparent reason.
Very interesting.

Hello everyone, well the results are in. ureaka ! job done the noise has gone:dancing:. I was doubtfull about changing the buckets but it did the trick the bike has never been as quiet as it is now. Old red 77 gets a repreve from being beheaded:D. Thank you to all who were showing interest.
