    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

I always hear people say there are 2 types of riders....those who have fallen, and those who will. So I'm curious, how many (if any) long time riders on here have never gone down? I don't how to define ling time riders, so let's say those of you who have at least ridden 100K.
 
Well, I haven't had time for nearly that many miles (25K?), but the only times my bikes have been dropped, trailers were involved.
 
My dad has ridden for over 20 years, and AFAIK and he's never said so, he's never laid his down once.

I know he'd probably commit suicide if he laid his current bike down, haha. 2009 Electraglide.
 
5 to 700K as close as I can tally. LOL Have not dropped a bike since 1976. I'm assuming parking lot tip overs and such don't count.

Seems I do remember a story about flirting with pretty girls at a stop light..... Must have been pre 1976. :-)
 
Am I the only one who feels like posting a clean, no drop record in this thread is tempting fate a little?
 
I'm in the "have dropped" category.

Hit some marble gravel in the 'Y' of a split off, hit curb and over the bars I flew. Wasn't injured, needed new forks though.
 
Dropping a bike is a "rite of passage". The longer you go without doing it, the the worse it will be. ;):)

That one was a stopped fall over. I just forgot to put my feet down. LOL
I think that was around 73 or 74 though. It was on a Honda and I think that was the last Honda I owned until the 929 a few years ago.

I have come off the bike in the dirt countless times. On the road, there have been numerous times, some with fairly serious injuries, starting with being tee boned by a VW bug that ran a stop sign in about 1975, and the last a broken back in 1991.

I have also fallen while practicing things like trying to manage front wheel lock-up.

I knocked the Concours off of the side stand in a sloped parking lot in 2008. I tipped over on it at a stop when my boot slipped in sand.
 
Pushing my 84 Kat off the center stand after a fill up and she ever so gently leaned to the side. Kept going, and I did everything I could to prevent it but it was too little too late.
To make matters worse, I couldn't lift it back up. It would just slide.
So dude behind me, after laughing, came over and helped me.
Hope that's the only time it goes down, because that bodywork is literally irreplaceable.

I am thinking so. I've only ridden about 20K, but so far so good (except a little episode in my garage where I forgot to put the kickstand down when I got off the bike:o...........no one saw me so it doesn't count in my eyes:rolleyes:).
 
Not yet. But, always prepared for the worst. ATGATT.

I just had a really stupid drop today.
I was leaving a sidewalk cafe. Sat up, flipped up the stand, put on the helmet, started the bike, and for some reason my foot decided to stomp it into first before I had the clutch in. It died, but jumped enough forward to get me out of balance. I had to let it all the way down on the right side before wrestling it back up. I managed to let it down really gently, so no damage, except to my cool and cred. :)

I shrugged to the audience, shook my head, and slinked away at 6 or 7k.

I have no idea why I kicked it into gear. I've done this for decades. :o
 
Went down at moderate speed last spring. Imaginary gravel in a (now posted!!) set of 20mph Esses caused me to alter my line. Or rather give up on it and hammer the brakes. Ran out of pavement and hit wet grass and down we went. Managed to scrub off the majority of our speed, we were prolly doing 25ish when the rear tire had had enough of this shenanigans. Neither Rose nor I were hurt badly. Sore as all get out the next day, but no breaks no cuts. ATGATT saved our skin literally. Essie took a small beating but was easily repaired thanks to help from many on this board.
Other than that, one parkinglot drop when a soccermom decided I would look cute as a hood ornament, and some countless dirtbikes get offs including one in which I was on fire for a short time. But that's it! :)

No unfortunately. This was back when home video cameras were the size of a small European car and the parents dared not let their assinine hooligan daredevil children (us) use them at all. It basically boiled down to me, a KX80 (I think?) over rotation off a ramp and me ending up rolled up in a barbed wire fence with the still running bike and it's split fuel line on top of me while my cousin Andy laughed until he wet himself. He stopped laughing when he realized that both the bike and my riding gear were on fire and then proceeded to shut the bike off and throw dirt on me till the flames went out. And then bailed the bike off me and then laughed again. D!ck head.
 
20 something years of riding and my only drop was many moons ago, I had a 81 Virago with saddle bags, went to the local convenience store to get a few things. While I was kneeling down next to the bike putting away the stuff I bought in to the a saddle bag the bike fell over, anyone who may have witnessed it surely got a good laugh, I know this doesn't count though. Warning to all the non-dumpers out there, this thread is a jinx. :rolleyes:
