For the last month I've been enjoying and sometimes not enjoying the weather in the Northern Everglades, right now I'm wearing a T-shirt despite waking up to frost on everything the last two mornings. It seems you can pretty much count on a warm late part of the week and getting cold again on the weekends, that changed last week.

As mentioned, it's in the mid 70's right now but get this: It's supposed to get down to 24° tomorrow night with winds blowing 25mph and gusting up to 40, in The Everglades! I've chickened out and booked a room for the next two nights, a three season tent just ain't gonna cut it with that sort of cold blowing in.

No, The Everglades isn't really hell despite the snakes, alligators and packs of feral hogs running through camp every night but this sure isn't the he place I want to be in the summer, that's for sure!

This is why most people choose to live in a stable home, with heat, fresh water, electricity, a toilet and shower, etc.

There's running water and a shower here, but no hot water, just what comes out of the ground. Plenty good enough once the temp gets above 70 or so. You can see my electric source in the photo charging a 20A lithium cell bank, the cell phone and night light don't require much and an outlet on the bike serves as backup.

Electricity from sunlight?!? What manner of witchcraft is this?

(If the inquisition comes to your door, pretend you're not home. :cower: A little advice from Melvin Brooks.)

Move to Canada. Climate is an odd thing these days. We're in the Rockies and it's supposed to be around O°f with 2 feet of snow in the yard but right now it's 40°f and no snow on the ground. Down right balmy here in the great not so white north.

Falling Iguana warnings the next few days........

Where was that weather during your rally?…..oh wait it was. How ya doing Sandy?

I've not seen any Iguanas down here but there's plenty of other lizard type critters around, they come out and sit in the road to sun themselves when the skies are clear.

You should have seen the German couple who for some reason believed it was a good idea to try to hand feed some lettuce to a snapping turtle!

You Don't be there at night in the summer. You would be covered black with mosquitoes in 60 seconds.

Yesterday, play at the opening event of the LPGA season near Orlando was halted because of wind. Today, the final round was canceled because of cold (and wind). Putts were being blown off the green!

That sounds like being in the swamps of Michigans Eastern upper peninsula in late spring, those mosquitoes are a sub arctic variety that quite literally make dark clouds in the sky because there's so many of them.

I've also been out in the Allutian Islands albeit in late summer, same thing. If not for the fact the wind blows about 25mph constantly you'd get carried off to Russia.

Answer: Mosquito

Question: What is Michigan's State Bird?

Haha.

How you doing now ?

How you doing now ?

It's not been bad after we got past the coldest stuff Monday night, I stayed at camp due to the wind having died down. It's been slowly warming back up to average, chances are I'll move back up to my site near Daytona in a couple more weeks for trailer week. It's about an hour out from the rally and the only draw for me is the swap meets to get helmet stickers with edgy and non sequitur style one liners to stick on the bike. Right now it's a clean slate.

90° yesterday, 39° tonight and 31° tomorrow night! Was going to be heading up toward Daytona trailer week tomorrow but it's another 5-6 degrees colder up that way, gonna hold off til Thursday when it gets back closer to average temp wise.

What a schizoid winter it's been down here this year, from one extreme to another.

That's global warming for ya.

Notice that I say "average" as opposed to "normal" when quoting temperature, It's been cold before and it'll be cold again. Just saw a graphic over the weekend, Florida is overall warmer this year compared to average, THAT'S how climate figures into the picture.

Both poles of the thermometer can show the effects of global warming, though one must factor out a number of features.
