    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

  • In order to help others find info on a particular bike, be sure to put the year, make or model of bike that you are asking a question about, in the Topic Title. This will allow people to pass by posts they have no interest in.

I hope I don't come off as criticizing, Bill. The last thing in the world I want is to sound judgmental or superior. All I have to do is look at pictures of your Suzuki track bike to know you have a good understanding of the process. How did you strip the rest of the tank bare, w/o stripping the paint over the filler? From what I can tell, there looks to be 3 different plastic fillers on there. The 2 sections that concern me are right under the body line and the spot in the front. That's a really strange color. To feather all of those areas out may cause you to sand enough off to make the spots low, and then require another skim coat to bring it back up...which is OK as long as the filler that is there is stable. If you deem it to be so, then..onward. :D
 
Larry, when I say criticism, I take it as sincere advice, not some hurtful aggression.
The shape/contour of the old fillers is quite good. I'm doing this one step at a time. As for those fills pealing later, well I'd like to see it happen and figure out why.
Those different color fills, well they are the oldest, 20 yo or more.
I began with some brush on stripper I had on the shelf, but it only takes off one layer at a time. So I detected those fills immediately.

I started the body panels. They seem to have only the orange with gray primer over the base white.
So I'm doing a quick brush on of stripper to dissolve the orange, then wipe it off leaving the gray primer intact.
I'll follow that up with a soap & water wash, sanding and on to primer.

Ok, this bike's been around the block.
Right panel is plastic and can use Larry's plastic epoxy repair EZ.
Left panel has been repaired with fiberglass, that's ok because the whole panel is fiberglass!
I thought it might have been be made by AirTech, but their panels are quite different, all one piece.

Boy, parts can sure be ugly before they begin to look pretty again, eh..? That's a handful ya got there, Bill. I'll look forward to the turn-around.
 
Yeah, this not a collectable level bike after all the abuse.
Still, I am gonna do my best to make it a user collectable.
 
A lot of people made replacement panels in fiberglass for the CBR's. Several years back I went to look at an ex race bike for the owner. It was only after I'd sorted through the multiple sets of race glass with it and found one set I recognised that I was able to ID the bike.
 
Ok, took a couple full range test rides today. Looked really ugly with just the front cowling on and in primer gray.
Low speed high speed, this bike is FAST! Has good torque at 35-40 mph in 6th gear.
Wound it out hard from a rolling 1st all the way up to 115mph in 5th, 12,000 rpm. Did that in the same space my GSXR1100 does 130mph in 4th.
Sounds like acid/metal rock at 11,000 rpm!!!
It's not a scary bike at all, power comes on in a steady even way, it just sounds SO WICKED COOL!
Has slight stumbling/surging at steady speeds. Have not touched the cabs yet, that's probably where the issue is.
Mirrors are full size, excellent rear sighting.
Seating is for people smaller than me, I'll probably have to reshape the foam so I can slide back a couple inches and recover the seat.
Bike is really lightweight, so EZ to move around the garage. If it fell over I could probably grab it and pull it back up before it hit the ground. Last bike I did that with was a Kawasaki EX500 twin.
No way I could do that with a 750.

They are truly cool. So many awesome Hondas from the past. If I could only have one make of Japanese bike, it would be Honda.

I'd add the VF 1000 Interceptor. Those were monsters in their day.

Or the CB750...CB350...

Hard to narrow it down, but the CBX ain't a bad place to start. :cool:
 
The SOHC CB750 or 650 both have my attention. Like to try some vintage racing, the SOHC valve system looks really cool.
