I have two red '83 GS1100Es. One looks like it has metal flakes. The other does not. Does anyone know how many colors were produced in '83?

Hi,

The '83 1100ED came in blue or red. That's "Pearl Pure Red" or "Starry Blue Metallic".

The '83 1100 ESD came in blue over white. That's "Space Blue Metallic" over "Pearl Sunny White".

Parts fiches are a wonderful thing.

Thank you for your indulgence,

BassCliff

Thank you for your reply. Both bikes are '83 models. They are defiantly different reds. (not a repaint)

Hi Mr. Don Giablo,

All I can do is RTFM. :o

All of the red 1100's that I've seen (which, I admit, hasn't been many) were not a metallic flake red. I wonder what you have there? :-k

I think posplayr has one. But I don't remember it being a metallic flake red.

Thank you for your indulgence,

You should come by, and take a look. My bikes are in La Verne. G.

Let me add that a few early 1983 GS1100E's were available in "Fantastic Copper Gold Metallic" or "Cool Beige Metallic" as it is known today. I have an example purchased from the original owner and verified by the selling dealer. It was the first liter bike they ever sold.

Yes it has a goldish metal flake in the OEM ED Red ; When I tried to reproduce it I ended up with my "Orange" tint Red

Until only a couple of years ago, I thought the red "83"'s were non metallic. I mentioned it to a guy who had one, & he advised they were metallic, but it was only barely visible. In his garage, I couldn't see the metallic at all, but he rolled it outside in the sunlight, & if you looked closely, you could see the gold sparkles in it. Let me ask, was the "cool beige metallic", anything like the champainge color from "82"???

I can surely see the metallic flake on one bike. (clearly it is on all pieces) The other bike is just red. Someone told me that they had two reds in '83.

When I bought my 1100E in 84 the dealer had a shed load of 82s and 83 sitting on his floor. He gave me, and I assume anyone else the ability to mix and match any combination I wanted to go with. So if I wanted and 82 red body set with a black engine that would have been fine with him.

Wonder if your seeing a similar situation.

It was exactly the same

That color looks pretty sharp, with the black engine & pipes (not that it looks bad in the '82 scheme)....I came across a pic of one, and did wonder if it was stock.
