Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

I, for one, fantasize about the 2014 CB1100 DLX on a daily basis.

EDIT: The idea of combined brakes irks me a bit though :-\ Any opinions on this/how it works? I've read about ABS and think that's fine. But combined brakes....meh. I'd rather learn to use my foot/hand myself than rely on the machine to do it for me.

Never been that attracted to many Hondas, but the CB1100 does it for me.

Worked find on the VFR's I've ridden. Takes a little getting used to but not much... You barely notice it most of the time.

Interesting. He's got a Staintune and some other large diameter headers. Personally, I don't think that he has improved its looks from stock.

If you compare an '80-'81 GS1100E to the new Honda, there is not one thing that the GS doesn't do better than the new Honda. Acceleration, braking, handling, fuel economy, rider and passenger comfort, styling, etc.
The ONLY two things that the New Honda has over THE 30+ YEAR OLD SUZUKI is fuel injection and the fact that it is NEW and comes with a warranty. I will keep my Suzie's and my money thank you. ;) :D

Not true... The braking on the new CB will be far superior to the GS1100 as it has 4 pots on a 296mm rotor.

I would be surprised if the handling is not better too - certainly "as stock". It has a 41mm fork for starters.

Power at 82bhp is not huge but it's close to the GS1100 & I think the torque is greater at 56lbft which is probably more evident on the street...

I agree the 1100F is prettier... :)

Speaking of old Honda 1100's........My favorite Honda 1100? Yep, 30 years old and will still smoke a new CB1100. Give an 1100F a run for it's money too, in fact, was the fastest production motorcycle ever made in 1983. This is my Candy Glory Red 86, favorite Honda color of all time, also had an 80 CBX in the same color. Absolutely stunning in person. Enjoy!

Your V65 looks good. They made lots of power, and the magazine testers said it was hard to launch down the 1/4 mile track because it wanted to wheelie :D

I've always loved those 65's, but have seen so many blow 2nd gear out I've stayed away. More of a Yami guy outside of my GS anyway ;) That commercial with Pee Wee is awesome!!

Wow, too bad I'm not closer to KY. Otherwise that would be very tempting..

"Apparently, not selling too well."

I'd like the idea of a completely new bike - if those things were Suzuki's - say a GS1100EE model, without the politically correct speed limiter that can't be programmed out, and around 90hp, I'd have one in my garage.

Or if it was a Kawi, say a KZ1000J4 - I could say the same thing.

Call me a tightwad, but my '83 GS1100ED cost me $1850 plus maybe $400 to put it in order, including new sidecovers, and a factory new petcock, and I'm thinking it'd be very competitive with the CB1100 in braking & handling.

Lurking around over at the CB1100 forum, they've got a vendor who's been successfully re-flashing the ECU's on them, and everybody is happy with their CB1100's.

Hmmm... in a few years when nice used ones are going for $4k I might add a HONDA to the garage.......

The CB1100 is a good looking bike and can be made even sharper with carefully chosen accessories. It's performance is more than adequate for most riding a standard will be used fir. I think it's true competition is nostalgia bikes from Triumph, BMW, and Moto Guzzi and against those it stacks up well.

As for being compared with Honda's and Suzuki's of the 80's I would think it's performance and handling would be close enough that in a group ride with machines of that era the rider would make the difference, not the bike.

And it's new...meets emission and noise standards...and comes with a warranty which the owner probably won't need at all. So, if you like riding more than wrenching, it's a pretty good choice.

I have a couple of old GS's in my garage and they aren't going anywhere. But if I wanted another standard the Honda would easily make the short list ahead of bikes like Triumph's Bonneville.
