    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Back in February, I took the GS1100 to a friend's house out of town. I brain farted when tying it down for the ride home, and it fell over in the truck.

I thought the dent was too deep to just fill it with bondo, and I don't have welding equipment, and I wasn't going to drill a hole in it and pull it out, so I decided to buy the paintless dent repair kit and then the tools to reach in the tank and "massage" it out. The tools wouldn't reach the area, so they were useless. The paintless kit only gave me one good pull, and that was securing it with epoxy instead of the hot glue they give.

Anyway, it really didn't take as much bondo as I thought it would. One good application, and then a couple of light ones.











I sprayed it with water to check for low or high spots.





Duplicolor "Pure White" base coat.



Krylon "True Blue" sprayed. I left the outlines of the blue and black stripe so I had a good guide to follow. I found out later that I didn't follow them exactly.



 
After the blue was sprayed, I did the striping. I bought some 3M 1/4" black tape for that.





Next was the clear coat. 2K out of a couple of cans.





After it sat for about a week, I buffed it out. Meguiar's liquid rubbing compound, then Meguiar's polishing compound.







Back on the bike. I wasn't paying attention the position of the fuel sending unit when I took it out, so it's wrong, of course.





I bought some new emblems as well. While they look good and fit great, I decided I liked the way these look with the blue and chrome.

 


While I was at it, I took off the fairing (I'll get to that a little later) and one side cover had a decent size crack in it. I used DAP RAPID FUSE on that. It held up through all the body work and buffing and man handling I did to it. I'll see how it holds up on the road.







 
Hate you had the trouble, but looks like you've got it under control, you did great. Congrats. Rekon there will be those who aren't fond of the blue frame & wheels?, not that it matters.
 
^^^That's how I bought it. I hate the fact that the original paint job that MOTORCYCLIST magazine did will eventually be painted over. Fairing has cracks and there are chips and worn spots on the front fender and tail section.

Nice work on the repair and the paint.
Electrics and paint are my two personal bugaboos. Always like seeing how-to threads on those subjects.

Electrical system isn't fun for me either. My mind can't grasp it for some reason.

Looks great.
As far as eventually having to paint over Motorcyclist's work, it beats the alternative of squirrelling it away in a garage. These things belong on the streets.
 
Thanks again, everybody. The fairing will require fiberglass work. I've only messed around with it before. Might take watching a few videos.
