    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

So as you may remember I had a spot of trouble in October involving a nasty pot hole and a minor crash. Long story short after spending much of the winter trying to decide what to do, I've finally fixed the bike up and today got it back on the road!

With new pipes, front wheel, and front tire it felt like a different bike. In a good way. Handled really well and the noise the Hooker 4-1 with the baffle makes is intoxicating.

Another plus side is the GS can finally come home and live with me at my new apartment (since the crash I've graduated, got a new job, and a new apartment, the bike stayed hidden in the college parking deck until now.)

Thanks Scott! Sure felt good to be back on the bike, fixing it up was the right thing to do! The bike deserves it after it's been so good to me.
 
Congratulations on all accounts Tim! Glad to see you back on two wheels again!
 
Thanks for all the wishes everyone. Allie I was thinking more towards aerosmith than the other link but I appreciated them both.

Those bar ends did a wonderful job of being crashproof, just so you know ;)

Also thanks to everyone who said to fix the bike. It started up yesterday for the first time since december with the first press of the button, and no drama at all. You just cant keep s good GS down!

Too right Tim! My little 450 has been down twice now... the one before Christmas and then I got rear ended a week ago... still riding though! She's a tough little beast :D
 
The ride is a reward for graduating. Congratulations on the new things in your life.
Where did you find the fork protectors?
 
Jeez pete I didnt know you got rear ended! Glad your ok mate. I got the fork guards from traxxion. They were a bit spendy at $50 for the set but they look fantastic and work very well. I like knowing my forks arent so exposed, plus I think its a nice detail to `modernize` the front a bit.

Yup...Traxxion. Good stuff. I have the same ones on my 1100E and my BMW...
 
All good Tim, minor damage as I was stopped at the time and they didn't hit me hard... just annoying and inconvenient...

We'll I'm glad your OK all the same. At least your accident wasn't your fault, I can't really say the same. Sure I wouldn't have crashed if the state of NJ gave a crap about road surfaces, but I also wouldn't of crashed if I wasn't following that VW quite so close and had a viable escape route figured out...

Ohh well live and learn as they say.
 
Good attitude about the crash. Makes you think about the ones you missed. You know, last week I got a speeding ticket in E. St. Louis looking at the new bridge going up there over the Mississippi, and was clocked going 47 in a 35. It was a speed trap, and I am pretty sure I wasn't going that fast. I'm not going to complain though; on the way home I drove over 80 most of the time without getting caught. Some things are just due, I guess.

Glad your bike is going. It looks great.
 
Tim, remembered your unfortunate crash, and been on the look out for big pot holes ever since. Great you are returning, good timing with prime riding season starting, save for the little nasty winter-in-spring weather. Enjoy and ride safely.

I've only seen 5 potholes in nj.:rolleyes: A friend had a stretched/lowered zx 10 dragrace machine. On a rare streetride he hit a bad expansion joint on a rt 9 overpass, smacked the oilpan on the ground, and split the cases. Totalled the bike. one of his saving graces was his calling the D.O.T., under a police officers recommendation, and he found out that there were previous complaints about the bad expansion joint. this helped with his insurance...Plus a thrash to restore it to original ride height and removing the racing parts.:D
