DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

I'm looking hard at a few GS1000's and 1100's. Particularly a 1980 GS1000SZ in excellent shape. My question is, is there anything particular I should be looking for or asking about on these bikes, and the 1980 GS in particular. I haven't owned one of these before so I don't know what kind of issues one might expect when buying.

Welcome to the site, Danny.
The SZ denotes the bike as a Katana.
The 1000cc Katana didn't show up until 1982. Be careful.

Hey danny, welcome & glad to hear you're thinking GS's. a little more info on what your ideas are could help. There were no "80" GS1000SZ. Bottom of homepage has a link for model information that shows what was available in what yrs. Most GS's are susceptible to charging system problems, other than that some clutch problems on GS's that were abused a lot. other than that pretty well bullet proof.

Thanks for the heads up! I wasn't sure what all the different models and years were. This is super helpful!

I have a '78 GS1000 8V engine in a '77 GS750 frame that is for sale when people ask about it or I talk about it - hey I like to ride LOL.

It sits just like this except the rear shocks, mirrors, grips and battery have been replaced within the last 200 miles.. it'll be 300-ish next week as I'm finally getting better after my last round of Covid.

If interested, I started with just a frame, some spare parts and an Ebay account so I can tell you everything about this bike. Clean Florida title in my name and licensed for my enjoyment.

I am interested in barter/cash/hookers/blow but prefer C4 Corvette/4x4's/pre 80's Vdubs :-)

Well, if we're starting that, I'd sell my "83" GS1100E, it just don't get rode as much as it yus'ta. Would probably sell any of mine, my riding has slowed a lot lately.

Thanks for the offers but those are not quite what I'm looking for. This is the one I've been eyeing. It's listed as a 1980 1000SZ, but the description says 1100E. I asked the seller and he said it is in fact an 1100E. Not sure why he put something different in the title. It's too far for me to check out in person and I'd have to ship it half way across the country. Opinions welcome.

That model was sold in both 1980 and 1981. As with any 40+ year old bike you are considering, condition is everything.
