    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted.   • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Hello all,
I have been working on installing my new SH775 R&R and SSPB. Along the way I have been reading a lot of diagrams. I need some help on figuring out if the wiring diagram is wrong or if I am color blind and not understanding. I have been using this diagram. It's the color one below. I also found this B&W one that I believe is confirming my suspicions that the diagram may be incorrect.

Specifically the left handle bar controls for the color diagram appears to be inaccurate. Tonight I was going about trying to secure the old stator loops that run through the left hand switch. I need one of them to rewire the ignition and kill switch for the SSPB. However I discovered that not only does the color diagram show incorrect colors, it also seems to show there not being enough wires running through the connector indicated with the red arrow. There appears to be about 12 wires running through the connector for the handlebar switch. The color diagram shows many fewer than that. I have been chasing a grey wire, which I couldn't ever find on the color diagram, I assumed it was a color code I didn't understand. I now see that the B&W diagram shows it very clearly.

Has anyone had similar experience? Is this a known problem? Am I looking at this right or am have I been too deeply inhaling the solder fumes?

I cut off the left hand switch and these are the wires coming out. The colors captured in the picture below may not be quite accurate. I tried to twist the wires while taking the photo to ensure that any stripes were shown. I am not 100% certain these colors match the second, black and white diagram but about 70% seem to match from what I can tell in the photo. I'll check again when I'm next down in the shop.



Any help is appreciated!

Not sure why you cut the left switch wires off. Easiest way to eliiminate the stator loop thru switch nonsense is near battery where this one wire from stator goes into harness and travels to left switch and then returns. Just disconnect them (and forget about them) and wire all 3 stator wires direct to r/r.
 
I believe there are 11 wires running through that plug/connector. The color diagram shows 7 wires in the connector with the red arrow. The other four wires are in the connector to the right.

The color diagram shows a green wire coming form the headlight switch. The service manual labels this wire "Gr" which stands for grey, not green (G).
 
Note that the wires that come from the switch assembly are not the exact same color wires that come from the main harness. You need to look at the transition from one to the other at the connector. An example would be the solid orange wire from the switch transitions into an Orange/Red wire in the main harness.

I can't help much specifically but knowing the colour codes is a huge help..I think (or at least believe )the colour code is correct even where the order of wires in connectors and harness is not the same .... there are variations in wiring diagrams versus connectors but it's probably a question of having the exact diagram that suits your model and country....ime, I see it in my 400s one an E and one a T. the connectors for dash /gear indicator are not the same. The oem shop manuals can have pages of wiring diagrams for the same general bike.

Never trust a schematic that is not from the factory manual. They are easier to read but always cross check against the factory Black and White schematic.
 
Gorminrider, are those color codes Suzuki specific and cover most GS models? my bikes po had left a big bundle of wires behind the steering neck which are not used since there is no dashboard or guages, just the basics. Only thing in the H/L bucket is the signals and H/L plug. Sorry for the hijack

It took me an embarrassingly long time to figure this part out. The orange wires seem like the most common occurrence of this change in color after a connector. There is a lot of orange on this bike, it makes a lot more sense now, thanks!

Never trust a schematic that is not from the factory manual. They are easier to read but always cross check against the factory Black and White schematic.

Heh, I wish I had realized this before diving in. At least I learned a lesson, I'll ignore the flashy color diagram now. Thanks for chipping in.

This is diagram is a lifesaver. I was starting a spread sheet to build exactly what you have here, thanks! Saved me a ton of time.

Not hijacking at all, I actually am experiencing a very similar thing. PO removed all but the headlight, front turn signals, hijacked a random circuit to run the background light for aftermarket tach and speedo. Otherwise everything is randomly cut off/ taped, I'm guessing what is supposed to end up where. I personally don't think the harness is a loss to the point of needing to be replaced but I am going to have to find what 3-4 cut short orange wires were powering. Looking over the diagram that gorminrider provided it seems accurate to the circuits that I know off the top of my head.

Yes, they have always worked for the projects I've done. and even knowing the major ones(orange, black with white trace, etc) really helps elimination to figure any oddballs you suspect MIGHT be "PreviousOwnered"
