Not having a garage full of equipment also means that 90% of the work is done by hand, so I guess when it is done eventually, one day, I can say, in all honesty, this bike is totally hand built.

At first glance my thoughts were to forward the seat on to you, as there's little rust on the pan. so, I guess that settles it, the pan 'is' going to be blasted and painted. don't need to see bloody fingers on you anymore.

Consider painting it with Por-15 paint, the rust preventative stuff. I blasted my seat pan but there was still red rust flecks down in the rust pits so the Por paint was broken out. There is no UV issues on a seat pan so you can just leave it after shooting.

I wish I had por-15 to try. the only thing I have in stock is black single stage Acrylic Enamel, black single stage Urethane and Black DBU base coat. if I recall what Stan said correctly, rust isn't an issue where they are. $#*@%!!!...

Dale and Ed, thanks for the comments, Dale you you are a gentleman beyond the call of duty, really there is no need, my fingers will be fine, but I told you, you are welcome to play with it as much as you want, you would probably do a better job putting it all back together than I would anyway.
Dale, you are right, rust is really not a problem here, I am at 5500ft above sea level and 600km away from the coast, our climate is very dry, so any type of paint will do well.

Choice of paint was a very good one!!

You're proving that to be true! Take your time and do things as painstakingly slowly and carefully as possible (while learning lessons along the way) and you end up with perfection...

Hatch, learing is right, the first cover did not give me too many dramas, but the second one.....man, ha me pulling my hair out, kept on getting issues with laying the primer down, in one particular spot, jeeeez, I must have sanded and sprayed a hundred times, kept getting imperfections, I was ready to murder, eventually I just said to hell with it, and hit it with 120 grit paper, i had been using 320, and took it right down, eventually it went on smooth.
I let it gas off for a good long time and then put the first coat of colour down.
We have had a thunder storm threatening all afternoon, so it was do I, don't I, do I, don't I, do I, don't I, do I, don't I,eventually it looked like the storm was going to miss us and pass away to the South, so I hit it with the colour.
You guessed it, as I put the second coat down it started to blush....badly, damn, damn, damn , I guess the humidity was too high anyway.
Oh well nothing to do, but get on it, so I gave it a quick going over with 600 grit, and will lay colour again tomorrow morning when the air has dried out a bit.

Gathered up all the hardware and dropped it off for plating this week, no more waiting to put things back when they are done, due to horrible looking nuts and bolts. :dancing:

I must admit I look at some of my bolts and things and think... man I shoulda replaced that! Oh well... didn't even think about getting them plated or anything...

Thanks Pete, you know, we have an Aerospace Electroplating shop on the airfield and I have had a little chat to one of the guys that works there, and basically he does it on the side for me for beer money, costs me less than a quarter of what it would going through the front door, so I am happy and he is happy.

Hahaha, you okes are welcome to, but I think the shipping will kill the deal.
For that whole bag of bits, and it is pretty much every bolt, nut, washer and spring that came off the bike cost me just on $30, not sure how that compares??

What sort of plating is it? Zinc? Looks very good and the price is next to nothing...

My good friend works for the airlines, too bad he don't fly to SA....I'd get him to bring you a bag of nuts and bolts and springs and so on.....cash enough for a case of beer, and pick it all up in a week....

one can dream, right....
