A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Landmark moment in music!

Great tech. Years ago learned why eastern music sounds often jarring and hard to get used to.
audible frequency range is divided into smaller bands. Our ears and minds take time to adjust.
I assume that the divisions on this fret board adhere to western conventions. Fretless instruments have no easy guideposts but refined eared and very skilled players can do anything within the tuned range.
my hearings crap but was the violinist in the video taking such liberties?

I'm not sure if you're familiar with bassist Charles Berthoud but he covers a few different Angine de Poitrine pieces on a fretless bass, check him out on YouTube, even HE can't quite hit it on the nose!

The Microtonal aspect was explained in the post that started this thread. Also the fact that this is very much an Avant Garde act was also explained.

In recognition of Lab3's " I said it first " comment..... I realize commenting on the micro-tonal aspect once he has done so is evidently " verboten " .... I really must brush up on my discussion protocols ..... I really had no idea there was a "once said can't discuss " rule out there ..... I guess like Earle I am unfamiliar with " Lab3's rules of order " ...... My apologies for violating these world wide accepted standards .......

I think you are spot on with your Asian analogy ..... There is an instrument played by one of our local musicians called the " Mohan Veena " a slide guitar/sitar hybrid that I think may be a good example of crossing the bridge .... It gained some note through " Vishwa Mohan Bhatt " the designer..... It is made in a little shop in Kolkata ....I visited it once but he had no samples and built them to request. Unfortunately it took 3-4 weeks to make one and I wasn't there that long .... Too bad . They were inexpensive { $300 U.S. } at the time...... Here is an example of one of our local guys playing one ......

Well, so much talk I finally punched it up and watched and listened... Not much to say but pretty good musicians... Not at all impressed with anything else I heard or saw but my opinion they seemed to be pretty good musicians,

That was the point all along, great musicians getting credit for what they're doing despite whether or not you think the music is "good" I liken it to the folks in the lowrider car community, personally I think what they do is totally ridiculous but have the utmost respect for the painters and mechanics that make it possible.

It's about knowing the full story before forming an opinion or making a comment. You should try it some time, it just might suit you!
