DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

hello all-

I replaced my stator this afternoon and after the oil change I fired up my '82 gs550 to check the voltage and saw that it was only 13.6 or so - I'm wondering if I also need a new battery or a new R/R - and hoping somebody has experience with these impasses..

thanks for helping

rob

Check the output specifications in the manual for your bike.
the voltage you are getting should keep the battery charged.

do you have the manual?

The battery has to be fully charged in order for the voltage to be where it should be. Was it fully charged?

Hi,

If you've read the Stator Papers you know that 13.6v is not really enough.

At what rpm did you take that reading? At idle? At 5000 rpm? Is the ground wire from the r/r unit connected directly to the battery's negative terminal? It should be. Are all of the charging system connections and grounds clean, including the fuse box? This is a must. Check the voltage drop between the r/r (+) and the battery (+). It should be .25v or less at 5000 rpm.

That should keep you busy for a while. My thanks to Mr. posplayr for all of his documentation and work improving the charging systems of these bikes.

Thank you for your indulgence,

looks like my work is cut out for me - the reading was taken around 4-5000 rpms (13.6) and the battery had been charged a week prior but could have been 1 volt low (11.7 or so)..

you are not too far off. It migt simply be the por battery charge or your connections are little dirty. Recharge and do phase one tests in revised stator pages, It should take about 5 minutes once your seat is off and you can get to the battery.
