I drank a lot of beer in this place over the years . Two of my close friends in Delhi were members . And it's the only time I ever got to play tennis on grass courts . The pro beats you by exactly two games . He knows how to maximize his tip .... And after a shower and massage it's off to the bar..... Originally founded by the British in 1913 and in 1947 transferred to India .... I love this place and logged a lot of time there. And met some interesting people . One time I was in In the bar the day Canada found the Air India bombers not guilty { they're guilty we just pucked up the investigation } I was in the bar and the gentleman next to me leaned over to me and said ...... " Garth .... Just send them over here . I guarantee they'll confess within 24 hours " ..... Later on the ride home I asked my friend who the guy was ..... He told me he was the head of the I.B. { Intelligence Bureau or India's secret police } .... My friend told me not only would they confess they would probably jump off the roof after they had done so..... Apparently a lot of people jump off the roof of the Intelligence Bureau building ....
My travel days are over but were I to visit Delhi again Gymkhana would be on the top of my list ......I don't know if Modi will pull it off. There are a lot of Generals who are members .... And pi$$ing off Generals in India has not turned out well in the past ...... I hope it stays open ......

Gymkhana Club: Delhi's most exclusive club is under threat of shutdown - can it survive?
The British-era Gymkhana Club is facing eviction, triggering a legal battle and a wave of nostalgia.
