A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

My 83' GS750ES has been delivered

I remember doing my first set of carbs. I printed out the tutorial so I could easily take notes and mark where I left off, as it was cetainly a multi-evening project for me.

I had 4 containers, one for each carb. Took tons of pictures right before removing a piece.

Followed it to a T.....and did the paperclip sync method. She fired right up and ran beautifully.

Shortcuts will only create issues, not results.

Read the carb tutorial and follow it. Don't skip any steps. Inside the tutorial you will find information on how to shim the needles, should it be necessary, which is NOT certain.

That purple cleaner stuff is crazy strong alkaline solution that will corrode your carbs straight away. Stay away from that stuff unless you know what your getting yourself into. Simple Green Pro is a much better product for cleaning motorcycle parts because it won't corrode aluminum, but it's not a very good cleaner for carbs. For that you need carb dip.

Will do Ed.
I have some Simple Green Pro 'Heavy Duty Cleaner' which is a light purple color(I've used it before) that I need to use-up.I will just give the carbs. an initial soak in that to possibly soften all the varnish after I remove the parts and keep them separate from each other.I understand(never used it yet) the purple power stuff won't do the parts too gently so I won't use it.

You can lead a horse to water, ...

Cleaning the jets is easy. Cleaning and opening all the internal passages....not so much.

I have used a "bristle" from a wire brush for clogs and with a little help from a can of oil spray equipped with a long plastic "nozzle" it poked and blew its its way through easily.

Its not so much the jets and that are the problem when dipping carbs without dismantling............its the rubber that gets damaged. Mainly the throttle shaft seals so the carbs need to be completely dismantled if dipping...........

Hi,thanks.I appreciate your feedback.

Yep, that's the generally approved way after dipping. I use ultrasonic instead of 24 hr dipping but can't swear it's as good.

Well,Ok,
I've been 'on hold' as my main focus has been to locate parts, specifically an OEM stock exhaust system for my 750ES.
I've been scouring the sites and just yesterday I found the needed pipes on Ebay:I had to order them from 2 separate sellers, one from AL. and the other from Kenosha,WI.I expect it'll be about a week before they come in which will give me a bit more time to do a few things in the early morning(7-10:30AM)hours when it's cooler outside;I just need to get to sleep early enough to overcome this serious sleep deprivation I've had ever since I've lived on the top floor,on the corner of this very busy commercial section of Davis.I'm more of a 'night owl' but I'll need to change that because the traffic is Very Loud.

The #2/#3 center pipe section has a very(almost rusted all the way through)rusty lower balance connector down the bottom and will need to be brought over to the 'old time' welder I just found in the last few months.I hope he's able to 'shore it up' sufficiently so I'm good to go for the life of the bike.

Not getting sleep sucks...do you work shift work?

No,I just like staying up late,it's a habit from the past, plus eating too late in the evening then staring at the computer into the night.I'm going to need to start some new habits: #1 getting to sleep earlier.
My entire week works better for me when I get more than 4-5hrs. sleep in consecutive nights..

Wow...what time do you have to get up for work?

This seems to me like we have a misunderstanding.
I was speaking about sleep deprivation and you're speaking about work.

Trevor,what is your work ?

I think he details motorcycles... read "My New Gig" 😉
