Ok so this is my first post and also my build. So I went ahead and picked up a 78 gs750. Of course I went against my own rule never buy a anything at night. So I did anyways :confused:why idk. The guy tells me that the headlight comes on and off. And that it leaks a little oil. I say ok no problem pay him load it to the back of the truck and head home. Well F MY LIFE. Little oil leak **** it was pouring out like it had a drain plug left loose or something. But I couldn't tell where it was coming from. So went to homedepot and got some grease remover. Scrub scrub scrub **** took 2 full days or scrubbing. And guess what I still need to scrub some more. Ok so now that I have it somewhat clean and I can see where the hell all the oil is coming from I found 3 places. **** no wonder why it was everywhere. First place the rpm gear. Since the bike had no tach idk why they took it off but it was missing. Partzilla.com is where I get my stuff or eBay. So I went ahead and ordered a 26442-45000 TACHOMETER HOLE plug. Make sure you also order the seal 26451-45000 SEAL BAND. Ok on to number 2 leak well as it turns out someone was messing with the clutch cover and left allllll the screws loose why again idk. So I tried to tightening them up and fired her up **** still leaking. Back to the web to order a seal 11482-45100 SUPERCEEDED BY 11482-45100-H17. So now that I found **** just hacked up I went ahead and checked over every nut and screw making sure it's tight. Ok so now no more oil leaks. Next up find out why the lights don't work.:eek::confused::mad:
Pics tomorrow. Sorry

The CB750 is very popular with the cafe crowd and that's increased the price and reduced availability, no worries mate the GS is a better machine! :)

Bike looks really good , you will get up to snuff soon , lots of help here!!

Looks good!
Sure when you get it all sorted you'll be a "happy camper".

Ok so I start looking into the wiring of the bike. First I see if the headlight is any good. Nope burnt out. But while as was looking I found so wires melted together. So I go to where the fuse box is. Lol what fuse box there is none. Ok so what to do? Well I start looking to see how far it goes. Damn it's the hole harness.
Great need a new harness. So I say F it and build my own. Once that was done I look at the rectifer. Since reading on here that they where crap. I decide to upgrade it I had a brand new one off my old srad 750. So I removed the old crap and rewired my new one. But I relocated it up front. Here my set up as of now
But I will upgrade to this setup once funds are available

So for now I needed something to tell me what was going on with the bike so I made this it's not done it need paint.

It has left right truns high beam oil light and ignt. Oh and yea thats the odometer it came with. And idk the real mileage. So next in my list is the carbs. Went to Home Depot and pick up a gallon of CLR cleaner. And took apart the car sand dipped them in for a 24 hours

Took them out got them ready for paint since my main jet and seals are not here yet.

Oh yea I had to order a seal kit from cycleorings.com. Great person to deal with and fast shipper. Here's the link to what I got http://cycleorings.com/VMkit.html Well that's it for now.

All back together now just need so new jets to come in the mail from Jetsrus.com and it will be ready to install.

Carbs look good. The best way to get to know your bike is to tear it down and put back together. I've gone thru just about everything on my 850 and it's such a satisfying feeling in the end. Ya, I've had lots of help but it's all in the learning for me.

It appears to be a nice looking bike now but It's gonna be a better running bike when you get it done.

Great job on the carbs , they look awesome , I am enjoying your thread , can't wait to see it done!! Brian:cool:

on your first posted pic of bike....first thing that grabbed my attention are those nice red calipers! Have fun with project and keep us up to date!

What did you paint carbs with? Is it gas proof? I want to paint mine also so not sure if I should just clear with spraymax or what?

"Lol what fuse box there is none."
First time I took my cover off to check the fuses I thought the same thing. Holy crap....this all runs on one glass tube relic. And it was cracked at that. Luckily the factory backup was still in the protective plastic :). Things were so much easier back then.

Good luck w/the project.

Never really realized how much the frame looks like a Japanese featherbed. With a bit added bracing.
