A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

I am certain that it looks fantastic in Daylight.

Chuck, what is wrong with those side cover badges on the pic's that you posted.
Where did someone find those? What is with the white background?

Eric

Picture as promised

I'm aiming for next weekend to have it done.
I also found a white marker for writing on tires, so I'll be trying that out to, give it a proper old school muscle bike look

Cant wait to see the tank on her. Shes looking like show-room again!

Perhaps you can find gold lettering for the tail piece and paint the "GS" on the side covers gold also. ;)
Red with gold is going to look beautiful!
I still need to find a red with gold stripes tank and front fender for an '80-'81 850/1000G and I will have a red/gold bike also. :D

Eric

I bought stripes from reproductiondecals.com :)

Of course my 300ZX is acting up now so need to troubleshoot that along with hundreds of other things I need to get finished. I feel like a walking example of murphy's law...

Primer:

base coat:
IMAG0429.jpg

I'm gonna wetsand it before I apply a second layer of basecoat. Then wetsand again before applying stickers and clear coat. Then maybe wet sand again before polish... This needs to be perfect!

This is gonna look so badass!

base coat sanded. Amazing how much the clear coat layer does for the finish when you compare the tank and the side covers

IMAG0431.jpg

I have applied the second layer of base coat and will leave it overnight for it to cure then another round of 1200 wet sand before applying vinyl stickers. Then it's another two days to make sure the vinyl is absolutely dry before I apply the clearcoat. So it won't be finished this weekend but my seat isn't finished untill next week either so can't ride it anyway....

You are doing it right. Slow and steady. WTG!
Did you use a tire crayon or paint stick for the tire lettering?

Eric

Just because I don't feel like searching through pages for a breakdown, did you have to re-jet for your pod filters? The bike is looking great by the way!

Thanks :)
I don't know to be honest. The 850 swap, pods and 4-1 exhaust was done many years ago sometime in the late 80's or early 90's. But I suppose it's been rejetted.

tankvinyl applied, two days and I'll get the clear coat on and the bike can pretty much be called done :)

And it's done.
IMAG0445.jpg

Just waiting for a starter relay and the petcock.
The guy who put in the pipe on the petcock put it in the wrong hole so now I have to ride on "res" then put it in the "on" position when i'm short on gas :P

After installing the start relay, giving it a squirt of starter gas I could drive out of the clubhouse, two others came in just as I was going out:

And here is another one as I went on a short ride up the mountainside :)

Thank you, I am amazed at how well this old bike rides now with new tires and all the new stuff, it's like a new bike compared to how it was :)

Love your bike!!

Love your bike!!

I just love what you have done with your machine.....I have a '79 GS850G and I contemplated painting it black. My original color is close to yours, but badly faded out. There is NO WAY that my bike will ever be black! I will source out the original colours and striping to put her back to as it was in 79.You've made a beautiful job:clap:

Thank you :) Sorry for the late reply, you can get the original striping from reproductiondecals.com :)
