Well, it turns out that while UPS can deliver all over the globe, third world countries, war zones, mountain sides, they can't deliver to my house because I'm 1/8 mile off the blacktop and we got a little snow. Still don't have my shocks. No worries. I've decided to use the cl175 tank I bought off ebay, that the seller said was a cl350. It's super clean inside. I bought 175 front cushions and it fits perfectly there. Gotta fashion something for the rear. Decided to try to remove the emblems, and, unbelievably, 3 of the 4 tiny screws came out. Still working on the 4th. I'm probably not going to paint the tank til after the bike is together, if ever. I kinda like the patina.

Shouldn't be hard to figure out a rear mount.

UPS finally grew a pair. The new Hagon's fit perfectly.

Overall, the bike looks pretty good. Lots of work to go. Need to clean off my bench!

I never thought I'd have so much trouble finding SS locknuts for the top shock mounts. M10-1.25 nylock nuts are impossible to find. No problem getting new chrome acorns, but I'm trying to stay with stainless. Any ideas or sources?

I sent McMaster-Carr an email about needing SS m10-1.25 nylock nuts, that aren't on the website, or the paper catalog. Page 2 of the catalog says "If you don't see what you need, just ask". So I did. This is the reply I got.

"Hi Ray,You can find pricing and availability for all of the socket head cap screws and nylon-insert locknuts we sell on our website."

I also doubt that i could find SS nylock nuts but what about SS acorn nuts?

A quick look at McMaster-Carr shows only a M10-1.5. I can get new Honda parts, acorns in chrome, but I had these nylocks planned. Was planning to use them for the motor mount bolts also, although I have a way around that.

I just checked my metric sources and asked for SS 10 X 1.25 Nylock= no, SS 10 X 1,25 locknuts= no and SS 10 X 1.25 Acorn nuts=no.
But, they do have Zinc plated 10 X 125 Nylocks and locknuts. Hope that helps.

Thanks. I think McMaster-Carr has the zinc plated ones. I'll probably go with those. Who'da thunk those would be hard to find?

Got great service from McMaster-Carr on a bunch of stainless fasteners. Ordered Sunday online, and got the stuff Tuesday, then realized I forgot a couple things. Ordered again Wednesday a.m., and got it Thursday p.m. Got all ss Allens for the engine mounts, shock mounts, and a couple 12mm bolts to custom cut for the rear fender mount. Still need a soda blaster. I need to get the engine back in.

I really need to get back to work on this thing. Pretty much haven't touched it all winter. Got all the ss fasteners I need to finish. Got a wiring kit from Vintage Connections. I've got everything but time. I work too much.

DMP Fasteners has it in Chrome, but not SS, at least on line.

They have it is a chrome pike nut too, but that's a bit much, unless you are doing the Brat/Bobber/Cafe

I've had good luck with these guys. I'm disappointed that thay didn't have it.

I solved the upper shock nut problem. SS 10mm Nylocks with a 1.25 thread pitch proved impossible to find, so I went with SS thread adapters with a 1.25 female end and a 1.5 male end. Then I bought SS knurled knobs to put on the male end. The left will hold the exhaust like stock, not sure about the right. Overall, the mounts measure about 2" wider than stock. This is not a good pic of the area, but it does show the top fender mount bolts a friend made up on his lathe. Basically SS allen head shoulder bolts with a 12mm shoulder and a 10mm thread. These also proved impossible to find, so I bought regular 12mm bolts with an unthreaded shank long enough to cut off and turn down to 10mm.

Great job so far Ray. Really like what you have done so far. I'm in Bonne Terre Missouri and no one soda blasts around here that I can find. I went to Harbor Freight and bought what looks like an air nozzle but it has a hose coming out of the bottom of it. I believe it was made to spray liquid. Attach it to air hose and stick the end of the other hose down in a box of baking soda. Voila, soda blaster on the cheap. Is it the best? NO does it work? Yes. Make sure you have your air compressor drained of any water as it make the soda clog in the hose, not a big deal, just pull the hose loose and use the air nozzle to blow out the hose. Hope this makes since.

Well, life gets in the way, sometimes. I reread my project thread and realized that it's been over 2 years since I touched this bike. In that time I've worked endless hours, had a shop built, and right now am recovering from rotator cuff surgery. It's hard having lots of time on your hands, and yet not being able to do anything. Been off work since July 28th, and just now getting in good enough shape to do some things. Moved my CL350 project to the shop today, and for the first time, I have all of my tools and projects together in a dedicated space.

Edited to include a pic of the bike table I built. Seems to work well.

I'm finally getting to mock this thing up. The Hagon shocks I ordered are 1" over stock. Looks good, I think. I mounted a spare Harbor Freight motorcycle stand to the table, after cutting it down to size.
