DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

so i got an 81gs 550lx with pod filters and a free flowing exhaust. i bumped the jet size up from the 92.5 to 102.5s and she runs about as good as i would think it will run until i hit about 8k and it just flatlines there and wont turn any faster. i can burry the tach while the bikes in nuteral but i cant say the same while its in gear. they dont make a dynojet kit for it anymore and the local suzuki man (not stealership) is tryin to get me goin, hes been callin dynojet tryin to see if they can put me a kit together but its been a week and still no good news maybe someone here can point me i the right direction as to what to do next. thanks guys

Bigger main jet. Much bigger. A good 550 should be coming on like a JATO bottle at 8,000.

They still do the Dynojet kit - their part no 3314. It's listed for a 550 Katana and it'll fit your bike.

katanas have the 2 dual throated carbs though i gave the 4 single carbs. BIGGER JET? i bumped the mains up 4 sizes? what size would you recommend?

Your main jet should be big enough to reach red line. Start with a 115.
You are adding alot of air with the pipe and pods so you need to compensate the fuel to match.

That'll be a Katana that I have yet to find then. They don't have the Siamese carbs - they're the same as on your bike (4 individual BS cabs, all in a row).

You might of course be running rich - just depends on which pods you popped on and your exhaust. You can't assume anything when tuning carbs - you'll need to start at the beginning and work through it.

Either that or pop in that Katana Dynojet kit.

Here you go. 3108 and 3308 are for the GSX550 or as you guys know them the GS550 1983-86.

3314 fits the GS550M aka 550 Katana which has the same engine as you just wrapped up in Kat bodywork.

I've put in loads of 3314 kits for people who have boogered their performance by chucking the airbox. Does what it says on the packet.

^^katana carbs?cuz those are my carbs

Regardless of jetting and what-bike-are-they-from...sure looks like they need to be torn down and cleaned FIRST

your right theyre probably not i just tried to find a picture to reference them

Finding what is stamped on the side of the carb body would be a good first step in figuring out where the carbs are from.

its not those exact carbs i just put that picture up to show you guys that mine are the 4 singles not the 2 Siamese ones

We know your bike doesn't have the Siamese carbs. And we also know the GS550M (the 550 Katana doesn't either). If you have got the correct carbs fitted to your bike (the same ones that it was wearing when it left the factory) then we know tha they are the same carbs as fitted to the Kat. The Dynojet 3314 listed for the GS550M (which, I repeat, does not, has never done nor never will, have Siamese carbs) kit will fit straight in.

hampshirehog thank you for clearing that **** up for me sorry im a little less knowledgeable as the rest of you guys but thanks for the help

ok so i tried the whole spacer thing and it didnt help any i put probably 1-1.5mm of spacers under the E-clip on my needles. its not mych but i thought it would be a good start. same story itll run to about 8k and cut out i have no idea what else to try now, pilot jets? and i pull my plugs and cylinders 1,2,3 are running super lean the plugs look brand freaking new and cylinder 4 is running rich. plus idk if it helps but my left muffler gets about twice as hot as the right one. as much as i hate to do it im about to just take it to a shop and let them worry about it unless i start getting on the right track here

what kind of idea would it be to go ahead and put the needles out of a 750 in there since they are made to deliver more fuel would that work?

nevermind i put socks on my airfilters and IT RUNS LIKE A BEAST NOW. its cheap but when it runs who gives a **** right? :D
