DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

New 1980 GS1100E ... have a few questions.

So,
I am not new to GS bikes but it has been a few years. I just picked up a 1980 GS1100E that is in need of some love. I have a few questions that I thought I would ask as I get to know this bike:

1. I notice that when I look at the engine specs of the GS1100 16 valve I find different HP and TQ ratings between the 80-81 models and the 82-83 models... what's the difference in the engines? What are the ratings for my bike?

2. I believe I still have a Clymers manual for these bikes, but I wouldn't mind having a factory manual. Does anybody have a link for a download of one (I saw the link for the 1980 GS1000 manual, is that pretty much the same)?

3. Are there any good carb swaps for this bike? I am not scared of jetting or other carb work, just wondered if anyone has a good upgrade that has worked for them (I will do a forum search as well). I have the stock mikuni's that I'm sure will clean up well, but I have a GS1000G that I would like to put these carbs on. I thought since I will be modifying this bike for a little more performance that I could look at using it's carbs and putting different carbs on it.

4. Does anyone have a simplified wiring diagram that they have used to wire one of these bikes from scratch? Mine will need a little wiring help so I thought it might just be easier redo the whole harness (although time consuming).

Thanks in advance for the help, I really appreciate it. Cole

Hi Cole,

1) The later bikes have a smig more cam lift, and a few hp more. I don't think Suzuki published official hp figures, and the power varies in different markets, and with different measurement methods, but people often banter about 105 hp or so for the early 1100. This said, someone is sure to come along and say definitively that the hp is 10x.xzy so I'll just shut up now.;)

2) Free factory service manual download for free here...http://members.dslextreme.com/users/bikecliff/

3) GS1150 carbs are 2mm larger and a direct bolt on (hint: I'm selling a set in the For Sale forum). Otherwise there are various aftermarket carbs available.

4) I strongely suggest you either fix your old harness or buy a clean used one. Harness repair is 10x easier than building one from scratch.

Good luck
