I know I am bit late on this question, but may I ask where did you get the kit for the allen screws for the carbs, was it a package deal, or did you have to know what you needed and order that way.

I just got the allen set for the motor covers and such, but would like a full set for the carbs as well

Please advise, if you remember

Started the day with new Bits-n-pieces. Gaskets, rubber plugs, and the replacement mixture screw. The socket head cap screws (allens) are a complete set for float bowls, diaphram caps, plus the front and rear mounting plates.

If you take a look at the factory part #'s listed on the micro-fische thats posted on various OEM parts websites like Babbit's, it tells you the screw size. For example a 02112-05167 is a 5 x 16mm and a 02112-06127 is a 6 x 12mm. Also, the number in the quantity colomn tells you how many are needed.
So armed with knowledge I sat and made a list of fasteners and sourced them myself. I went to Fastenal.com made-up an order, printed it out then took it to my local branch and ordered them. If you have a favorite hardware store, you could do the same there as well.

He has the intake screws, from what I can tell, but not all the other screws for the carb, ie for the rail, and the tops, etc....

by the way I did order the whole kit from him already, and did a full rebuild of my carbs

Actually got something done for a change. Turnsigs are mounted but the tail light is only "in place". The mounting screws that came with it are too short, I could only get the nut on about one thread, so I will need to pick up some longer flathead machine screws. Kind of odd since I can not imagine it fitting the contour of the fender any better. Oh well, that's minor. Here are some quick pics to show their position and style.





I still need to do the electrical connecting but want to clean the harness side female bullet connectors really well. Then I can button it all back up.
Yesterday I picked up some black vinyl and thin foam to sew up a seat cover. before splurging on black leather from the upholstery shop. We will see how it turns out. So I spent last night on the seat pan that I had laid aside, finalizing just exactly HOW I was going to mount it. Cut up the glass cloth into strips and mixed up some resign for reinforcement where I will be installing the hardware.

Just kidding... I know what you mean about the size of the turn signals Pete, especially where I have them in the front. I worry about them getting "washed out" by the headlamp. I thought about a couple different locations and bracketry but with them being the exact size of the headlamp mounting bolt, it was too easy.
I need to start taking pics of the seat build right now, I got the front mounts 'glassed in and the portion of the pan the rear mount is re-enforced with 4 more layers of fiberglass, each layer slightly larger than the previous. So now would be a good time to start documenting how I do it.
divera84: The chain is a stock size, but not the original. It's a Race Driven brand o-ring 630 x 96 link I got off e-bay. The original one was rusted tight and even held the exact shape as I took it off. I probably should have went with the 530 conversion but the sprockets were in such good shape I didn't want to spend the bike funds replacing them.

Anyways, as long as your indicators are bright enough it shouldn't be an issue, it was just more of a taste thing from my point of view... so pretty much disregarding my comment would be the way to go there

Alrighty then, even though the seat pan was molded I needed to devise a way to mount it. I had a few possible solutions rollin around in my head when I was designing it so here is the way I finally went.
I found these tube clips in the trash at work that are used to mount shelving to 1" round pipe and went back to the frame a cut off the original front seat mounts. Naturally that meant a little touch up paint on the frame.
When I had mocked it up I had forgotten the rubber cushion at the rear of the fuel tank so once it was installed the front of the seat was too low.
I attached the clips to thin pieces of wood then glassed those to the bottom of the seat pan. This gave me a way to mount the clips and raise the front of the seat to the proper height...



I will be using some small flathead (countersunk) screws to hold them more secure than relying on the glue....
Next came how to mount the rear. I have rolled the rear fender forward to shorten it up and that left the original fender mounting holes wide open to use for the seat. I picked up some blind nuts and bolts in a sturdy size of 5/16" (or about 8mm)





I set the seat in place and marked the holes to drill on the rear...



Then scuffed the location with 80g sanding disc, mixxed up some epoxy and pressed the blind nuts in place. I found it was easier to use a large socket as a "Reciever" on the inside and channel locks on the nuts to seat them through the fiberglass.



And here is the final outcome, lined up pretty darn good and now I can move onto covering the entire thing with thin foam and sew up my cover...

Any Auto-Parts store should have the cloth and resin on the shelf. I even found it to be the cheapest at the local Wal-mart in the automotive section. I prefer to use the woven cloth instead of the mat, easier to handle for me anyway.

They been advertising a new T.V. "reality" show here on NatGeo called Knights of Mayhem LINKY about a bunch of guys doing actual Jousting. Made me think of you.

Last nights progress. Using some spray adhesive and thin 1/2" foam, I started attached it in sections. Starting in the center and worked my way out to the edges to keep from getting a wrinkle.



Here I had just done the top, front, and back, keeping it smooth and taught until the adhesive had set, then rolled it over to do the sides.



This is the outcome, just enough to hide and imperfections in the glass and give me a smooth base for the cover. I just tucked the excess underneath for the pics because wanted to wait to trim it off and let everything dry just in case there was any shrinkage.
