A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

hello everybody, i got me a new bike and i really dig. she's a little tiny but way fun. a 1981 gs450L, but has the title says, she has a few issues. lots of white smake at start-up till warm. also a small oil drip at the shifter and she shifts really hard. to the point where i have to stop, use my hand and shift it to neutral, but if i am running down the road she will shift but not easy. only thing i can come up with on the hard shifting is the clutch cable is bad or severally worn. (hard to pull in). i am more worried about the small oil leak. at first it was so bad it soaked both of my feet. funny, but going 90 down the hiway and your feet slip off the pegs makes you rethink wtf is going lol. anyway i put 3 quarts of 20-50w in it and i thought it stopped. but after i warmed her up this morning and took her the block she started to drip again. just a little bit. (at the shifter). anyone know what gasket this might be?

Clutch pushrod seal would be my guess.

Mine is an 80 450L. I'm pretty sure my drip is the shifter shaft seal. It only does it when warm and not much when on the center stand. The seal is $8, got it out there, just haven't put it in yet..... nice day for it...

I also gripped about mine being hard shifting and not easy to get into neutral. Shifting has gotten better with riding. Give it an oil change and ride it some, see if it improves.

thanks for answering. i have ridden a few times, but still seems the same, i will change the oil and try that. the PO before me put castrol 10w-40 high milage oil in it. so i have to change it. i also was messing w/ the airbox and the PO stuff it full of shop rags and cardbaord. wierd if you ask me. after i took all that crap out. the bike ran a really hi idle. i adjusted her down and now she sounds aot better. i will seal the airbox correctly (hopefully this week) and put an oem filter in it. i have most of the lower gaskets on order. cables also. i have a slow throttle response. i am hoping just the cable is out.
