    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

I just wanted to share the fun I've had with my 78' GS1000 recently. I initially rebuilt my 78' 1000 as a stock bike. I really enjoyed the process and was pretty proud of myself for actually being able to do it all. Myself and the co-pilot toured on her for a few years as a stock setup

I changed a few things for a road trip and GS rally down to Bruce's in California and really enjoyed 'changing things up'

I never thought I would be where I am today with motorcycles when I bought my first one back in 2007 after a 15 year hiatus. And I never thought I could have as much enjoyment from one motorcycle as I have with this one. I really thought I would just build it back to stock and that would be that.....who knew.
 
Im glad that youre enjoying it. The cycle looks great. I see that you've added rearsets. How are they? I briefly considered a set of Raask rearsets I saw on e bay, but being that im not a very aggressive rider, I passed...I think my knees thanked me:)
 
Those are Tarozzi rearsets. At first I was a bit worried as they are not adjustable much but it didn't take long to get used to the different riding position and now I really like them. You can really get up on the tank and with the right bars it's really quite comfortable. I've done an 8hr ride with them and the knees felt great and I've got a bumb right knee. The shoulder didn't like the bars as much though so I'm changing them out for ones that come back and up just a bit more.
 
Looks great,any plans to color the indent? (not suggesting that there should be)
 
Very nice job! I see you had Hagons when you were keeping her stock and switched to a DeCarbon style now (nitrogen loaded remote reservoir?), what kind are they?

Nice..I love the position of my handlebars, but after about 4-5 hours my shoulder is crying. Sadly this doesnt require adjustment, because I only get 1 maybe 2 long rides in during a season:(
 
The rear shocks are Marzocchi's. Pretty stiff compared to the Hagons but they sure plant the bike. I have progressive springs up front but they feel a bit soft now with the Marzocchi's in the back. I'm sure I can do some adjusting with the PVC spacer to stiffen up the progressive. Some emulators will probably help as well. I'm not planning on painting the indent on this body work. I actually have a complete set of body work that is painted the stock Skunk colours that I'll be putting on before next season after I do a top end rebuild. I put a different handle bar on today and a set of bar ends.

The bars are way more comfortable, came up and back a bit more than the others. Not sure if I'm sold on the bar end mirrors but it's sure nice seeing what's behind me. I've got a chrome set as well, I might see what they look like.
 
Ive got bar ends on the es. I put them on years ago after I crashed, and rode fairingless for a season - originals were fairing mounted. The view is great, but mine vibrate quite a bit at highway speed. Ive also kept them because I like the look of the fairing without the factory mirrors mucking it up.....
 
Wow Rob looks great! I'm always impressed when I see the "Island" bikes.
 
I read the title and I thought you joined a cult :eek:! The bike looks great and I'm so envious.
