A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

I am 66 now, the trail 70 was the start of a lifelong love of motorcycles, I have had many bikes, I recently got a 1979 GS850G that I love already,
I have done a lot to it already, I love tinkering,
this is my first Suzuki and my first shaft, I am here to talk and learn from all of you about my GS, thanks for having me.
here is mine.I have lowered it about an inch, I am 5'6", and I have a seat from texavina coming in about a week,
I look forward to good conversation and much learning from here,I will post more of what I have done to it later,
I have a thing for fork braces and powder coating 😁

Thanks for the good intro. And with great pics also.

Really nice painting. Looks good all over.

You say is your first Zuki, and first shaft drive. And are looking to learn.
Some info to start with:
That is a 79 (maybe 78), and were a lot of design changes for the 1980 model, so beware of that when/if looking for parts.
Namely the charging system, and the carburetors, and the brakes.

Do learn about the hub (called "joint asmby" on microfische) in the rear wheel (IN the rear wheel, not in the rear gear drive), and how it needs to be lubed.

hi and thanks, the title says 79,the VIN is GS850104376,I have been ordering parts for a 79 and they have been correct, so it could be a 78 ? I thought the 78 had single disk in front ? but then that's what I am here to learn about :)

Welcome to the forum. Great intro. As Redman suggest, and to the best of my knowledge, the pre ‘80 models had the VM carbs like yours. ‘80 and later had the CV carbs. And that fork brace is pretty nifty.
