    A note to new registrants...
All new forum registrations must be activated via email before you have full access to the forum.

A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Hello all.Great site!!!! I've been hanging around awhile now, taking in all to be said about the great gs series of bikes.Mine is not running now,i have had it since jan(thank you wifey) great gal bought it for a bill for my birthday gift.I was wondering.....I NEED a new(used) R/R because mine is fried like KFC..really.. the wires at the connectors are all melted!!! So I'm here to ask...What R/R to use...I've seen(hear) people using hondas, making thier own, rebuilding the old... please help me try to get this beast started before winter.. thanks---oh i forgot 1983 gs550e monoshock-with a square headlight--ernie

ebay is the best, look for a regulator. some other bikes that year might also use the same regulator. i used and 83 gs450 r/r on my 83 gs750. and yours is an 83 gs550 so even those 2 might work. im not 100% sure though.

gs550 R/R

gs550 R/R

thanks for the info, but i was leaning towards a differnt make like a honda or something else because all the problems surounding suzuki r/r's.i would prefer one fix up front instead of having to do it twice or more.i am working on a limted budget and can't afford to spend more $$ on the same part.

When my R/R burned out, I tried a Kawasaki unit I got from eBay. It worked, but the charging voltage was too high (more than 15 volts). I finally bit the bullet and bought a new Electrex unit from Dennis Kirk.

It now charges great. I no longer have to use a trickle charger to keep the battery up if the bike sits for a few days. The peace of mind is also worth it.

thanks for the info. i was thinking of going the electranics(sic) route but the money is still kinda high. any other thoughts on salvage yard finds?
