A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

New to me 1983 GS1100E

Ed, if memory serves that piece that looks like cooling fins at the splitter is just a plastic cover.

Yeah, I kinda figured it was a cover looking at the parts fische. Now I'm trying to figure out what the splitter is bolted to...Under the triple tree.

Yes, it's just a plastic cover. I'll get you another pic without the cover on.

Here's a pic of how it's bolted to the lower triple clamp:

After the pic I cleaned out all the dead bugs.

Here she is again in all her glory:

She's beautiful!

I'm researching how the splitter is supposed to be positioned on the tree. Looks like a bolt holding a clip is all that's keeping it in-place. More to follow.

Ed

Here's a couple of fische shots I was researching:

This one shows the clamp I was talking about holding the Splitter in-place.

This one is what Glen explained as the cover on the splitter and what's underneath it.

Hmmm... don't have any pics of the fork work.

Completed job pics will work. I know it's not the first thing most of us think of (to set up pics beforehand).

After action pics still work!

Ed

Personally, I like the looks of the naked bike but I also know the need for a windscreen at higher speeds.

I like the windshield. Thanks for reviving this thread. Good info on the forks!

Plus, your bike looks great!

Ed

Man, that's pretty. Did you modify the fairing to fit the train light?

It fits the light fairly well, and would probably fit close to perfect if I tweaked the mounting a bit. I didn't have to modify anything, but maybe someone else did before I got it.

After riding it with the 1000S fairing I've decided to keep it on the bike. I'm undecided on the looks, but do appreciate the extra wind protection.
